Dear 33rd Ward Community, |
|
|
Everybody get ready for another exciting Ecuadorian Festival and Parade, this weekend! The festival is on August 8 and 9 and will be held at Horner Park, 2741 West Montrose Avenue. There will be an entire weekend celebrating the beautiful culture of Ecuador, from Ecuadorian food and dance to a volleyball tournament and plenty of products from Ecuadorian vendors!
Remember that the festival is a ticketed event, so you will need to purchase tickets here.
Apart from the festival, there will be a free and public Ecuadorian Parade on Sunday, August 8! This will be a fun time for families to join along Montrose Ave and watch the parade floats go by. Please note that streets will be closed to traffic along the parade route during the parade. Traffic will be impacted by parade staging and dispersal as early as 8am, with the actual parade stepping off at Montrose Ave and California Ave at 12pm, heading westbound toward Kimball Ave, where it will disperse. Any cars parked along the parade route will be towed, so please be careful.
While you’re enjoying the festivities all weekend long, don’t forget to check out the local businesses! Whether it's Saborcito Ecuatoriano, Rinconcito Ecuatoriano, or La Coco, you will find so many wonderful opportunities to enjoy all that the 33rd Ward has to offer in international cuisine. |

We are also nearing the end of summer, which means that going back to school is just around the corner. In order to make the trip back as best as possible, we hope you’ll consider making a contribution toward the Israel’s Gift of Hope Annual Back to School Drive! They have an ambitious goal of getting 300 bookbags filled with school supplies. To donate funds or purchase school supplies through their online wishlist, please visit their Linktree, here.
This school drive will then be followed up with their Back To School Giveaway on Saturday, August 15 at Christ Lutheran Church at 12pm, until supplies last. In addition to the supply giveaway, there will be arts and crafts, food and drinks, and a bouncy house! |

Speaking of going back to school, our office has also been in regular communication with the Chicago Department of Transportation regarding ongoing work at Kimball and Ainslie. Based on our conversations, work is anticipated to finish before school starts.
Finally, we want to thank Oscar Gonzalez and Get Covered IL for joining us today. Oscar was able to meet with our neighbors and provide free help with health insurance enrollment, eligibility, and the Special Enrollment Period. With so much uncertainty in the world, and so much confusion around medical insurance, it means a lot to be able to ask an expert in person about insurance options. |

|
|
Thank you for doing this work with me. Please take a moment this week to help out a neighbor in need. You can always contact my office if you have any questions. We are here to help.
In solidarity, Rossana Rodríguez Sánchez 33rd Ward Alderperson |

When this community moved into our local park, my office began working in close, daily collaboration with many local organizations, mutual aid groups, nonprofit agencies, and government partners to ensure that our neighbors most in need receive the care, attention, and resources they deserve.

Alley ReconstructionThe Mayor’s Office, Alderperson Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez, and the Chicago Department of Transportation are pleased to announce the reconstruction of an alley in the 33rd ward. Please know that alley construction is scheduled to begin July 29, 2026. No alley access will be granted after July 29, 2026, please make accommodations to relocate your cars out of the garages. There will be saw cutting and minor asphalt demolition taking place July 27 & 28, 2026 but garage access is still permitted and allowed during those 2 days.
The alley is bounded by Wilson Ave and Montrose Ave, and by Sacramento Ave and Richmond St. Once started, construction is expected to take approximately six (6) weeks, weather permitting.
Due to construction, the following changes will occur: During construction, residential garbage will be curbside and we ask that the homeowner relocate cans to the front of the property. There will be no access to the alley for approximately six (6) weeks depending on the weather conditions. Barricades will block all entrance to the alley. Homeowners are advised to seek alternative parking.
This project will be managed by the Public Building Commission of Chicago. If you require any additional information regarding this project, please contact Capitol Cement Company, Inc. at 773-478-2200.
