Summary

This newsletter from the alderman in the 34th Ward focuses on community information rather than any specific zoning/development or housing/transit budget hearings or ordinances. It highlights ongoing street and transit-related infrastructure work and closures: street resurfacing and alley work starting in early April, the CTA State/Lake elevated station closure and reduced stop service, and major CDOT/CTA projects including Canal Street viaduct reconstruction, the Lake Street bascule bridge closure through 2028, the Halsted/Chicago Ave bridge project, and Ashland/I-290 viaduct stage traffic changes. Other major announcements/events include Earth Month Clean & Green events (Park District and West Central Association), Amnesty April for drivers (City Clerk fee waivers April 1–30), CAPS meetings with the 1st and 12th Police Districts (mid-April), and multiple community events such as the Madison Street Clean-Up (April 25), the Greek Independence Parade (April 19), and the One Earth Film Festival (April 22–27).

Community Training Observation Day

April 11, 2026

The Chicago Police Department is excited to offer a unique opportunity for Chicagoans to get a first-hand understanding of the recruit training for sworn officers through an innovative new program. By participating in this program, residents will experience a day in the life of a recruit officer. Each of these topics are a part of the 2026 recruit training for sworn officers.

This Community Training Observation Days program is designed to foster transparency, strengthen police-community relationships, and provide valuable insight into the training standards that drive professional and accountable policing in our city.

Camera Registration Program

When a crime occurs, Police Officers and Detectives canvass the area looking for evidence to determine what occurred. Video footage can greatly assist in their efforts.

If you have a private security camera that captures the public way and you are interested in assisting in an investigation in the event of a crime in your neighborhood, you can register your camera with the Chicago Police Department

By registering your camera, you are simply allowing the Chicago Police Department to contact you in the event of a crime in your area. CPD will not have direct access to your camera system and cannot access camera footage without your consent. This is a free and voluntary program. Learn more on the program website.
