2nd District Police Alert - Thefts from Vehicles


ABOUT THE CRIME - THEFTS FROM VEHICLES

This alert gives notice of recent theft from vehicle incidents in the Bronzeville neighborhood, within the 002nd (Wentworth) District.

 

In the incidents below, two offenders wearing black clothing made entry into parked vehicles by breaking the windows. The offenders then took property from inside the vehicle. These thefts have occurred in the general geographical locations listed below:

 

INCIDENT DATES AND LOCATIONS

  • 300 block of east 38th St. on January 11, 2026 between 12:00 A.M. and 8:30 A.M. (Bronzeville)
  • 300 block of east 38th St. between January 11, 2026 at 10:30 P.M. and January 12, 2026 at 4:00 A.M. (Bronzeville)
  • 300 block of east 38th St. between January 11, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. and January 12, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. (Bronzeville)

Unknown offenders wearing black clothing.


WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Be aware of this crime and alert nearby area
  • Pay special attention to your belongings left in your vehicle
  • Lock your vehicle and activate the security system, if applicable
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offender(s) including any vehicle description and license plate information
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
  • If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the incident for investigating detectives

Emergency Road Closure - 47th St. from Cottage Grove Ave. to Drexel Blvd.


The Department of Water Management has been issued a permit to close the eastbound lane of 47th St. between Cottage Grove Ave. and Drexel Blvd. for an emergency sewer repair. The permit allows for construction through February 13, 2026.


The eastbound traffic detour is 47th St. to northbound Cottage Grove Ave., to eastbound Pershing Rd./Oakwood Blvd., to southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and back to 47th St. Westbound lanes on 47th St. will remain open to traffic at all times.
