POLICY UPDATES FROM ALDERMAN VILLEGAS

✍🏽 Tipped Wage Substitue Ordinance

30 members of City Council voted to pause the tip wage increase at its current amount after receiving feedback from restaurants and workers.

“Sometimes when we introduce legislation, there’s nothing wrong with saying, ‘Hey, you know what, we got it wrong, let’s make some adjustments in order to make sure that we’re not negatively impacting the businesses which ultimately hire the people,'” Villegas said. The mayor is “trying to brand this as you’re either with workers or not. It’s the same playbook he always uses, it’s the billionaires against this, and the reality is, the devil is in the details.”

💵 Call on Trump Administration to fully and immediately issue refunds for "Trump Tariffs"

Consumers have seen prices go up across the board due to the President's inconsistency and unstable use of tariffs. This has meant higher prices on groceries, electronics, and more. These tariffs are now being challenged, and the administration, as well as the companies that passed that cost along to consumers, ought to issue refunds to the Americans that have had to front this cost.

🚓 Introduced Ordinance calling on the Commissioner of Fleet and Facility Management to identify suitable location for new satellite police station within 12th Police District

The Mayor's administration is slow walking the development of a 12th District Satellite Police Station and with the recent firing of former Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Garien Gatewood, I have major concerns that the Mayor will not follow through with opening this site. I introduced this legislation to start a path of action to get this done regardless of the mayor's attempts to block it.

To be clear - the community supports this, so did the former Deputy Mayor, and the Chicago Police Department.
