Dear Neighbors,
Spring has truly arrived, bringing a mix of rain, sunshine and a fresh start to the season. I hope you’ve been staying dry and enjoying the moments when the sun peeks out.
Speaking of sunshine, we spent some time over the weekend at Sunnyside Mall for the annual Easter Egg Hunt! Hosted by the Sunnyside Mall Uptown and My Art House Studio, we stopped by to fill the donut wall, courtesy of our local Stan’s Donuts, and it was a huge hit. A big thank you to Tara and Morgan for organizing such a fun and joyful event, and to Stan’s for making the donut wall a highlight. We can’t wait for next year! |

I also want to take a moment to wish a happy Passover to all who celebrate. Last week, we joined the American Jewish Committee at Anshe Emet for their annual Diplomat, Interfaith, and Community Leaders Seder, a meaningful gathering of leaders across communities to reflect on the story of Passover and its message of freedom and resilience. It’s always a beautiful and powerful space for connection, reflection, and community. Thanks for having us! |

On Wednesday, the Department of Housing (DOH) announced an investment of more than $300 million in 15 affordable housing developments across the city as part of the 2025 Qualified Allocation Plan. Included among these investments is at least $13.5 Million in city financial assistance for 1207 W. Leland ("The Leland"), which will fund the rehabilitation of 107 deeply affordable apartments and help preserve their affordability for generations to come. We are deeply grateful to the all of the 46th Ward advocates who made this possible as well as our partners at DOH, the Chicago Housing Authority, and Mercy Housing Lakefront for their hard work saving this crucial bastion of affordability in our neighborhood! |

April is officially here and yup—you guessed it… street sweeping is in full swing!
Did you know that street sweeping helps prevent flooding? But flood prevention can't happen if your car’s in the way! So pretty please - move your car! 🚨
Be sure to stay up to date on the street sweeping schedule, check your posted signs to avoid tickets and help keep our streets clean. You can find the full street sweeping schedule here or the schedules below. |

In response to outreach from neighbors living in high-rises suffering from high indoor temperatures, I introduced an ordinance to City Council on Wednesday, March 18 to allow buildings with older, "two-pipe" HVAC systems additional flexibility around heating and cooling in the Spring and Fall. During the Spring and Fall periods, especially given our changing climate, temperatures can fluctuate rapidly, making it difficult to balance heating and cooling needs within a building.
The ordinance has been reviewed by the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the Department of Law (DOL) and has been sent to the Committee on Housing for consideration. Before seeking approval from the Committee, we want to ensure neighbors, particularly major landlords, property managers, and condo boards in the 46th Ward are aware of the proposal and have had a chance to provide feedback.
Check out the ordinance and our explainer here, and let us know what you think by sending an email to [email protected]
We are aiming to take feedback over the next few weeks in case additional changes are needed before seeking approval from the Committee on Housing and City Council in May. |

| BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT Great Lakes Sailing |
|
|
This week, we’re excited to spotlight Great Lakes Sailing, a woman-owned organization led by Chicago native and Executive Director Erica Trejo. With over 15 years of experience as a USCG captain and sailing instructor, Erica is on a mission to make sailing more accessible and inclusive, especially for women and young people who have traditionally been underrepresented in the sport. Through programs like Sail Her Dreams, a STEM-based summer academy for girls, Great Lakes Sailing is creating space for young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and explore new opportunities on and off the water. Their work brings together sailing, education, and mentorship in a way that truly reflects the spirit of our lakefront community.

They also have several exciting events coming up this April, including:
"Where Wings Meet Water" Art Exhibit: A free public exhibit (April 19–30) exploring the connection between bird migration and water conservation. You will view Local, National, and International artists as we explore the human impact of water quality, how it’s affecting the Great Lakes ecosystem and the birds that live within. It is essentially an Immersive Art Exhibit in partnership with Sail Her Dreams & LivingGallery. Exhibit will be at Montrose Harbor!
Montrose Bird Walk: This event will take place April 4th from 9am to 11am. Sail Her Dreams and Matt Igleski, Executive Director of the Chicago Bird Alliance, will be hosting a guided exploration of the renowned Montrose Bird Sanctuary. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a curious newcomer, you’ll walk away with a richer understanding of local species, the wonders of migration, and the vital importance of the Montrose habitat to our ecosystem.
Earth Day Harbor Cleanup: This third event is on April 22nd from 5pm to sunset. This will be a community event at Montrose Harbor to collect trash (like cigarette butts and debris) from the land and water to protect local wildlife and keep the harbor a clean and safe place.
Be sure to check them out, support their work, and learn more about their programs at greatlakessailing.us! |

| | | It has come to our attention that large amounts of food are being dumped in various areas of the ward to feed pigeons. We want to remind neighbors that feeding pigeons is a violation of the City of Chicago ordinance.
As a reminder, dumping food in public spaces attracts rodents, creates sanitation issues, and negatively impacts the surrounding area. We ask all neighbors to help keep our ward clean and safe by refraining from feeding pigeons and reporting large food dumping when you see it.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy and welcoming for everyone.

These two handsome golden doodle brothers are half siblings and full of personality. You can spot their Chicago pride right away with their Cubs-themed collars, making them true fans through and through.
Clark and Ernie stopped by the office with their owner Mark while he picked up parking passes and made quite the impression, giving out plenty of kisses and snuggles to the whole team. Safe to say, they made our day.

Camry Parking Lot ExpansionThe Chicago Cubs recently filed an application to amend their existing Planned Development to expand the Camry Parking Lot by approximately 250 spaces. The Planned Development (PD) is located entirely within the 44th Ward, but I understand that many 46th Ward neighbors, particularly those living on Alta Vista, are deeply impacted by the proposal.
The PD amendment will need to be reviewed by the Chicago Plan Commission before approval and has not yet been granted support from me or Alderman Lawson. I encourage 46th Ward neighbors to continue providing feedback to my office for consideration. |

Upcoming Sidewalk Work! It’s that time of year again!
As spring starts, flowers push their way through frozen topsoil, and the sounds of birds chirp in the morning, so does the sound of construction as contractors race out to beat traffic and begin their workdays. We’re pleased to share that more sidewalks will soon be repaired at the locations listed below, giving every neighbor a smoother and safer walk to their destination of choice.
Each of these locations was suggested by a neighbor as part of our 2025 Participatory Budgeting Let’s Fix the Sidewalks! program last year. If construction results in any challenges, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office and we will work to resolve it as quickly as possible.
We’re excited to share what we have planned for 2026 at our upcoming Infrastructure Town Hall on April 21 at Truman College from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. Hope to see you there! |

New Cubs Remote Parking Location in the 46th Ward In accordance with the City Ordinance, the Cubs offer free remote parking for fans on night and weekend games. This year, the Cubs are utilizing the parking garage attached to the former Weiss Memorial Hospital at 4650 N. Clarendon Ave as a free remote parking location, with shuttle service provided to and from Wrigley Field. This arrangement applies to all home games on weeknights and weekends, postseason games, and large events with expected attendance over 12,500, such as concerts. Please note that this arrangement is not in operation during weekday afternoon games.
The proximity of the Weiss parking garage to Lake Shore Drive should deter traffic from neighborhood streets and will prevent fans from parking in the neighborhood during games. Please note the shuttle service will drop and pick up fans from the former Weiss hospital driveway on N. Marine Drive beginning two hours before first pitch and will run until approximately 90 minutes after the end of the game.
We have been advised that the remote parking option should not impact existing parking arrangements for neighbors, and no reserved spaces have been reassigned. Shuttle activity will be contained within the hospital driveway on Marine Drive, and buses will not use residential street parking. Additional staging has been coordinated off-site, including at the Jewel-Osco on Broadway, to help limit congestion in the surrounding area. For more information or concerns about Cubs parking, please contact .
Visit the Cubs website or review the Wrigley Field Parking Map below for details about the Wrigley Field parking options provided for attendees. |

City Council - COPA Ordinance In March, City Council approved an ordinance to expand the responsibilities of the Civilian Office for Police Accountability (COPA), calling for COPA to investigate specific allegations where Chicago police officers may have assisted federal immigration enforcement in violation of the Welcoming City Ordinance. Supported by CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling, this update provides long-needed clarity on who is responsible for reviewing these types of complaints and ensures a clear process is in place. As national conversations around immigration enforcement continue, this is an important accountability measure to maintain trust between law enforcement and all communities. |
