Dear Chicago,

Warmer weather brings many new and exciting things to do in our communities and in our great city.  Remind your neighbors that the best way to stay connected to events is through my official social media pages or by signing up for this newsletter!

One of my favorite summer events is the 15^th Ward Neighborhood Pop-ups.  Every week, we will visit one of the 15th Ward’s historic communities, bringing the resources the office has to offer directly to a block.  I join the staff on the sidewalk, listening to our residents, answering questions, and identifying ways we can better serve them and their neighbors.  This program has grown over the years, now running from June until September – 17 events in total!

I am also excited to announce a test initiative in the 009 Police District.  CAPS meetings have been moved to the morning.  Residents can now attend their local CAPS Beat meetings earlier.  Already this schedule change has seen a dramatic increase in participation in the Back of the Yards community.  I am truly excited for the response and look forward to pushing the same schedule modifications in 007 & 008 districts as well.

Lastly, summer gives me the opportunity to open our doors to young interns.  We are looking for several youth workers this summer to help with office and outdoor events.  Additionally, if you are a college student, the City Council Aldermanic College Intern program is now open.  Any interested 15^th Ward student should contact Mark at 773-823-1539 and submit a resume for consideration.

Your vigilance and cooperation play a vital role in keeping our community safe. Together, we can make the 15th Ward a safer place for all.

2026 CONSTRUCT Infrastructure Academy

Alderman Raymond Lopez is pleased to share that the Chicago Park District is offering a new round of Veteran and Military Programs this winter, running from early January through mid-March. These programs provide veterans and active-duty service members with opportunities to stay active, build community, and support overall wellness through professionally led recreational and fitness activities at local park facilities.

All equipment is provided, and programs are offered in a supportive, welcoming environment. Registration is required, and participants must provide proof of military service. Veterans and service members interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance and contact the program coordinators for additional details.

Chicago’s Food Scrap Drop-Off Program makes it easy for residents to compost food waste and reduce what goes into our landfills. Items like fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and eggshells can be dropped off at designated neighborhood sites at no cost.

This simple step helps cut down on odors and pests, reduces methane emissions, and supports the production of compost used in parks and green spaces across the city.

I encourage residents of the 15th Ward to participate by bringing food scraps in a reusable container and following posted site guidelines. Together, we can keep our neighborhoods cleaner and make Chicago a more sustainable city.
