Dear 33rd Ward Community, |
|
|
This weekend we celebrate Mother's Day for mothers, caregivers, and guardians. Motherhood takes many different forms, and I would like to wish a very special weekend to all of our neighbors that care for their families. Throughout the neighborhood, vendors are popping up along the streets to sell gifts and fresh flowers. Our community is also fortunate to have many local flower shops, like Jade Vine, Tito’s Flowers, Bonnie’s Flowers, and Fertile.
You could also join your family for a walk along the new riverfront trail at Ronan Park, or bike ride around beautiful Horner Park followed by some Italian Ice at Miko’s.
If you are in need of extra ideas for gifts or places for a Mother’s Day meal, we hope you will patronize our local business community for brunch, dinner, cocktails, or shopping. Especially some of our newer businesses like Luella’s Southern Kitchen, Rosita’s Tacos & Cocina, The New Lincoln Antique Mall, and The Sunshine Restaurant. However you choose to spend time this weekend, we wish you happy memories.
I also recognize this day doesn't always bring joy. To all survivors or those experiencing grief and loss, we send love, peace, and healing, and hope that you find comfort in the ways that you need.

As I reflect on Mother’s Day, I also think about the struggle so many caregivers go through to put food on the table and keep a roof over their loved one’s heads. We’re all seeing the price of groceries and gasoline go up. Most caregivers are working class people and that is why I was honored to listen in on Congressperson Delia Ramirez’s field hearing on the Living Wage for All Act. This act demands a $25 federal minimum wage floor, and the testimony from working people at the field hearing made it clear that this is urgently necessary.

I understand that the current economic situation is an incredible burden on so many, and my office is here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help navigating various agencies for aid. If you can’t reach our office outside of business hours, you can call 2-1-1 or navigate resources on their website, where resources navigators can help you find options to receive support. |

Thank you for doing this work with me. Please take a moment this week to help out a neighbor in need. You can always contact my office if you have any questions. We are here to help.
In solidarity, Rossana Rodríguez Sánchez 33rd Ward Alderperson |

Ronan Park Updates
In March, we have received many residents from the former Legion Park encampment into our ward as they wait for their assigned housing. I understand that this encampment has caused great concern for many neighbors. When this community moved into our local park, my office began working in close, daily collaboration with many local organizations, mutual aid groups, nonprofit agencies, and government partners to ensure that our neighbors most in need receive the care, attention, and resources they deserve.
For updates, please check in on our website. |

Get Medicaid FactsThe Cook County Medicaid Impact Workgroup, a coalition convened by Cook County Health, has launched “Get Medicaid Facts," a new website and communications toolkit designed to help people understand upcoming changes to Medicaid eligibility and what steps they can take now to keep their coverage.
These resources come at a critical time. Federal policy changes are expected to significantly impact Medicaid, and an estimated 400,000 Illinois residents could lose coverage in the coming years if they are not prepared or informed.
