March 26, 2026 Dear Neighbors,
Baseball season is officially back! Today, the Cubs face the Nationals for their season Home Opener at 1:20 p.m. There will be fireworks and a military flyover by members of the US Marine Corps at approximately 1:00pm. Our office is working closely with the Cubs, Chicago Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC), and other agencies to ensure a successful game day. You can find detailed resources—including maps of transportation restrictions, street closures, rideshare/pedicab staging areas, pedestrian rerouting, and remote parking—on our Wrigley Neighborhood Resources page here.
Whether you're heading to the ballpark, supporting local businesses hosting events listed here, or simply navigating the neighborhood, we want to make sure you’re prepared for the activity that baseball season brings. This newsletter features important event, traffic, and parking updates related to Wrigley Field and the Cubs, especially pertinent for neighbors living near Wrigley Field. |

New Cubs Remote Parking Location in the 46th Ward In accordance with the City Ordinance, the Cubs offer free remote parking for fans on night and weekend games. This year, the Cubs are utilizing the parking garage attached to the former Weiss Memorial Hospital at 4650 N. Clarendon Ave as a free remote parking location, with shuttle service provided to and from Wrigley Field. This arrangement applies to all home games on weeknights and weekends, postseason games, and large events with expected attendance over 12,500, such as concerts. Please note that this arrangement is not in operation during weekday afternoon games.
The proximity of the Weiss parking garage to Lake Shore Drive should deter traffic from neighborhood streets and will prevent fans from parking in the neighborhood during games. Please note the shuttle service will drop and pick up fans from the former Weiss hospital driveway on N. Marine Avenue beginning two hours before first pitch and will run until approximately 90 minutes after the end of the game.
We have been advised that the remote parking option should not impact existing parking arrangements for neighbors, and no reserved spaces have been reassigned. Shuttle activity will be contained within the hospital driveway on Marine Drive, and buses will not use residential street parking. Additional staging has been coordinated off-site, including at the Jewel-Osco on Broadway, to help limit congestion in the surrounding area. For more information or concerns about Cubs parking, please contact .
Visit the Cubs website or review the Wrigley Field Parking Map below for details about the Wrigley Field parking options provided for attendees. |

| Pedestrian Reroute - John H. Kelly Park The long-awaited park improvements are beginning at John H. Kelly Park! The full perimeter of Kelly Park will be fenced off and inaccessible to the public for the duration of the project, and the park is expected to reopen summer 2026. Until it reopens, there will be no public access into this area. This footprint is identified within the plan in red, referred to as the "Construction Site Boundary".
Chicago Park District and Contractor have committed to work with the Chicago Cubs schedule and Special Events at Wrigley Field. With Kelly Park fully closed off, the pathway within the park is not available for pedestrians to walk south from W. Irving Park Rd to Wrigley Field. For game and event days, pedestrians will be encouraged to use Sheffield/Sheridan from Irving south to Grace and continue to Wrigley Field, this route is denoted in blue on the map below. |

Due to high pedestrian volumes, certain streets around the ballpark may close to vehicles before and after the game, including Addison, Clark, Waveland, and Sheffield. Truck access in the area is restricted beginning 90 minutes before the game until at least one hour afterward. As a reminder, this applies to moving trucks as well.
For rideshare users, designated pick-up and drop-off zones are located on Addison (between Halsted and Broadway) and Irving Park (between Clark and Seminary). A staffed bike valet service will be available near the Addison Red Line stop, beginning three hours before the game.
Fans are encouraged to use public transportation. CTA will run additional service on the Red Line, #152 Addison bus, and #22 Clark bus. See the Cubs' transit Home Opener page here for other public transportation lines that serve the area. A $5 1-day pass offers unlimited rides for 24 hours.
Public safety is our top priority. Inside the stadium, you can report any issues by texting “FRIENDLY” to (773) 839-0282 with your location and a description of the concern. For non-emergency issues during home games, the Cubs Hotline is available at 1 (866)-4-CPD-TOW from one hour before until two hours after each game for parking and other quality of life issues. For emergencies, or if you notice something suspicious, please call 911. For more public safety information and tips, visit OEMC's website here and the Cubs' Wrigley Field security page here.
Thank you for your cooperation in making baseball season and enjoyable for everyone. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact my office at (773) 878-4646 or [email protected].
We hope everyone has a fun and safe start to the season—Happy Cubs season, neighbors! Go Cubs Go! ⚾
Yours In Service, Alderwoman Angela Clay |
