Independence Day Holiday Week Collection Instructions


As we approach the Independence Day holiday - observed on Friday, July 3rd - please note that there will be adjustments to the refuse and recycling collection schedules. During holiday weeks, please ensure that your Blue Cart and Black Cart are accessible throughout the week, as the exact service day may vary. Signing up for service day reminders in Recycle Coach will also alert you to changes due to a holiday that week. Weather changes may also impact recycling services. Residents can view their personalized collection schedule by visiting the trash and recycling service schedule Link (here) and /or by visiting ChicagoRecycles.org.

43rd St. from King to Vernon - Full Closure for Emergency Sewer Repair


The Department of Water Management has received a permit to close 43rd St. from King Dr. to Vernon Ave. for emergency sewer repair. This will be a full continuous closure requiring a traffic detour. Work is permitted from June 25, 2026 through July 15, 2026, and must follow all City work hour and noise restrictions.


Eastbound 43rd Street traffic should detour to southbound Michigan Avenue, to eastbound 47th Street, to northbound Cottage Grove Avenue, and back to eastbound 43rd Street. Westbound 43rd Street traffic should detour to southbound Cottage Grove Avenue, to westbound 47th Street, to northbound Indiana Avenue, and back to westbound 43rd Street.


Local, driveway and business access will be maintained at all times. Same-side pedestrian access, ADA accessibility, and 3 of 4 crosswalks at any impacted intersection will also be maintained at all times. CTA buses may be temporarily rerouted and bus stops may moved during the life of the project. Please check with CTA for details.
