Announcement

Relevance: 1/10

Summary

In a notice from Ald. Matthew J. O’Shea of the 19th Ward, he announced he will not seek another term after 15 years, and endorsed his Chief of Staff Erin Ross as his successor. The email highlights past ward accomplishments including investments in local commercial districts and streetscape improvements (notably at 95th and 111th Streets) and school and community facility projects, but it does not mention any new zoning, housing, transit, or budget hearings or policy ordinances.

Email from 19th Ward Office

Dear Chicago:

Serving as your Alderman for the past 15 years has been the greatest honor of my professional life. I'm incredibly proud of the work we have done together to protect and enhance the communities of Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood. However, after much reflection, I've decided not seek another term as your Alderman.

During my tenure we worked together to build the Morgan Park Sports Center, deliver new school buildings for Esmond, Mount Greenwood, and Cassell Elementary Schools, and make major investments in our commercial districts welcoming new businesses and transformative streetscape improvements on 95th & 111th Streets. Projects like these will ensure our community remains the kind of place where families want to raise their children, seniors can comfortably remain in their homes, businesses can thrive, and neighbors continue to look out for one another.

As I look to the future, nothing is more important to me than ensuring the 19th Ward continues to have strong, experienced, and compassionate leadership. That is why I am proud to wholeheartedly endorse Erin Ross as my successor.

For the past several years, Erin has served as my Chief of Staff, working beside me every day to solve problems for residents and improve our community. She is a lifelong resident of the 19th Ward who understands our neighborhoods because she has lived in them. She has the experience, integrity, and work ethic to continue moving the 19th Ward forward, and I know she will always put our residents first.

To everyone who has supported me throughout this incredible journey—our residents, community organizations, businesses, schools, faith leaders, first responders, and my outstanding staff, please know how much your friendship has meant to me. Most importantly, I'd like to thank my family - my incredible wife Cara, our children Brigid, Patrick and Eileen, for their patience over the years. I am looking forward to being more present and spending more time together.

Sincerely,

Matthew J. O'Shea

Alderman, 19th Ward
