I am so elated to share that the Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC) is officially part of the 46th Ward and fully moved into their new space at 4623 N. Clark St.
Over the weekend, I had the distinct honor of attending their ribbon cutting and opening ceremony. Words can’t fully capture how meaningful it is to welcome such an important institution dedicated to preserving and celebrating Haitian history, culture, and community into our ward. I encourage you to visit the museum and experience its vibrance, intentional curation, and storytelling that uplifts generations past, present, and future.
A heartfelt thank you to Elise, Carlos, and the entire team at HAMOC for your vision, dedication, and care you’ve poured into making this space a reality. We’re so proud to have you here in the 46th Ward! |

Speaking of grand openings, we also celebrated Timeline Theatre opening their new location at 5035 N Broadway in Uptown over the weekend. It was exciting to welcome such a dynamic cultural institution to the neighborhood and to see so many community members join to support them. Timeline Theatre is known for producing thought-provoking, socially engaged work, and I’m thrilled to see them bring that energy and incredible art to Uptown. Welcome to the neighborhood, we’re so glad you’re here! |

We continued our Houseless Neighbor Outreach Picnic this week, and I want to thank everyone who joined us, especially the new faces who came out to connect with neighbors and provide support. These gatherings are an important way for us to build community, share resources, and show up for one another with care and consistency. We are committed to continuing this work and creating spaces where neighbors feel welcomed, supported, and seen. As always, thank you to everyone who helps make these efforts possible. |

This week, Voice of the People Chicago hosted their “Sweet Home Uptown” event, a powerful evening celebrating the people, partnerships, and progress that continue to shape our neighborhood. The gathering highlighted the importance of supportive services alongside affordable housing and the impact that community-driven work can have not just in Uptown, but across the city. It was especially meaningful to recognize leaders like Marc Kaplan, Dordie Hester, and Dan Burke, whose dedication to organizing and advocacy has helped make Uptown and the northside more welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant communities. Events like these remind us that when we invest in people and community, we create lasting change. |
|
| | And as we head into the weekend, I invite you to bring out your little ones to Sunnyside Mall this Sunday, March 29 at 11 am for a visit with the Easter Bunny and a fun egg hunt hosted by My Art House Studio! It is always a great way to celebrate the season and connect with your neighbors. |

Neighbors! It is that time of year again! Street sweeping begins April 1st, and it plays an important role in keeping our neighborhoods clean, reducing flooding, and preventing debris from building up in our streets and drains.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation will post warning signs 48 hours in advance, so please remember to move your car to avoid a ticket and help ensure our streets are properly cleaned. In the words of our Ward Superintendent Ron, do not forget to move your car!
Click here to access the 2026 Street Sweeping Schedules and maps across wards. You can also view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool. Please be sure to check the 46th Ward 2026 Street Sweeping Schedule below to plan ahead and avoid any tickets. |

Lastly, but certainly not least, I am celebrating my birthday! I’m especially grateful to be spending my third birthday serving the 46th Ward. It has truly been an honor to grow, learn, and lead alongside all of you. Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in me and for continuing to show up for our community. Here’s to another year of doing this work together. |

| | | It has come to our attention that large amounts of food are being dumped in various areas of the ward to feed pigeons. We want to remind neighbors that feeding pigeons is a violation of the City of Chicago ordinance.
As a reminder, dumping food in public spaces attracts rodents, creates sanitation issues, and negatively impacts the surrounding area. We ask all neighbors to help keep our ward clean and safe by refraining from feeding pigeons and reporting large food dumping when you see it.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy and welcoming for everyone.

Trader Joes coming to Uptown?!Today (Friday, March 27), the Department of Buildings (DOB) issued an alteration / renovation permit for the build out of a shell space for Trader Joes on the ground floor of 804 W. Montrose.
The 46th Ward Office has been in contact with the management of the property about the possibility of Trader Joes moving into the currently vacant retail space on Montrose and Clarendon. This development is in its early stages, and we will share additional information about their plans and timeline as soon as we receive it.
That said, we are looking forward to our large vacant retail spaces on Montrose being occupied soon, between this promising project and the upcoming Planet Fitness at 909 W. Montrose, we expect to see Montrose being an even bigger destination within the next few months! |

Camry Parking Lot ExpansionThe Chicago Cubs recently filed an application to amend their existing Planned Development to expand the Camry Parking Lot by approximately 250 spaces. The Planned Development (PD) is located entirely within the 44th Ward, but I understand that many 46th Ward neighbors, particularly those living on Alta Vista, are deeply impacted by the proposal.
The PD amendment will need to be reviewed by the Chicago Plan Commission before approval and has not yet been granted support from me or Alderman Lawson. I encourage 46th Ward neighbors to continue providing feedback to my office for consideration. |

Upcoming Sidewalk Work! It’s that time of year again!
As spring starts, flowers push their way through frozen topsoil, and the sounds of birds chirp in the morning, so does the sound of construction as contractors race out to beat traffic and begin their workdays. We’re pleased to share that more sidewalks will soon be repaired at the locations listed below, giving every neighbor a smoother and safer walk to their destination of choice.
Each of these locations was suggested by a neighbor as part of our 2025 Participatory Budgeting Let’s Fix the Sidewalks! program last year, and we’re excited to share what we have planned for 2026 at our upcoming Infrastructure Town Hall on April 21. If construction results in any challenges, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office and we will work to resolve it as quickly as possible. |

New Cubs Remote Parking Location in the 46th Ward In accordance with the City Ordinance, the Cubs offer free remote parking for fans on night and weekend games. This year, the Cubs are utilizing the parking garage attached to the former Weiss Memorial Hospital at 4650 N. Clarendon Ave as a free remote parking location, with shuttle service provided to and from Wrigley Field. This arrangement applies to all home games on weeknights and weekends, postseason games, and large events with expected attendance over 12,500, such as concerts. Please note that this arrangement is not in operation during weekday afternoon games.
The proximity of the Weiss parking garage to Lake Shore Drive should deter traffic from neighborhood streets and will prevent fans from parking in the neighborhood during games. Please note the shuttle service will drop and pick up fans from the former Weiss hospital driveway on N. Marine Drive beginning two hours before first pitch and will run until approximately 90 minutes after the end of the game.
We have been advised that the remote parking option should not impact existing parking arrangements for neighbors, and no reserved spaces have been reassigned. Shuttle activity will be contained within the hospital driveway on Marine Drive, and buses will not use residential street parking. Additional staging has been coordinated off-site, including at the Jewel-Osco on Broadway, to help limit congestion in the surrounding area. For more information or concerns about Cubs parking, please contact .
Visit the Cubs website or review the Wrigley Field Parking Map below for details about the Wrigley Field parking options provided for attendees. |

We extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and all those impacted by the tragic loss of Sheridan Gorman and Chicago Firefighter Michael Altman.
We mourn the loss of Sheridan Gorman, who was taken far too soon at just 18 years old near Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus. Our hearts are with their family, friends, and the broader community grieving this unimaginable loss.
We also honor the life and service of Chicago Firefighter Michael Altman, who fell in the line of duty while bravely responding to a fire in Rogers Park. We hold his family, friends, the crew of Truck #47, members of the Edgewater Fire Station, and the entire Chicago Fire Department in our thoughts during this difficult time.
May they be remembered for the lives they touched, and may their loved ones find strength and support in the days ahead. |

City Council - COPA Ordinance This week, City Council approved an ordinance to expand the responsibilities of the Civilian Office for Police Accountability (COPA), calling it to investigate specific allegations where Chicago police officers may have assisted federal immigration enforcement in violation of the Welcoming City Ordinance. Supported by CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling, this update provides long-needed clarity on who is responsible for reviewing these types of complaints and ensures a clear process is in place. As national conversations around immigration enforcement continue, this is an important accountability measure to maintain trust between law enforcement and all communities. |
