Due to dangerously cold temperatures forecast overnight and through Friday, our ward office will be closed tomorrow. Our team will be working remotely and remains available by email at [email protected] to respond to your messages, service requests, and urgent issues.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning in effect until noon tomorrow, with wind chills expected to reach –30° to –35°. At these temperatures, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. We strongly encourage everyone to stay indoors if possible, limit time outside, and dress in multiple warm layers including a hat, gloves, and face covering if you must go outside. Please also check on elderly neighbors, people with disabilities, and anyone who may need extra support, and keep pets indoors.

Chicago operates a network of warming centers available during extreme cold, including DFSS Community Service Centers and Senior Centers (during operating hours), Chicago Public Library locations, Park District facilities, City Colleges, and all Chicago Police District stations (open 24/7). Residents are also encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts by texting 'CHIBIZ' to 6-7-2-8-3, download the for real-time weather and safety updates, and request well-being checks for seniors or neighbors in need by contacting 311 or via phone. If you encounter someone experiencing homelessness who needs shelter or warming, please also call 311 or contact our office to connect them with outreach teams.
