ICYMI: News from Our Town Hall Meeting that May Impact You

Relevance: 0/10

Summary

Alderman Desmon Yancy (5th Ward) shared key outcomes from the recent town hall, especially the Streets and Sanitation ticketing and tow mandate starting July 20 for vehicles parked on street-sweeping routes to help prevent storm-related flooding and drainage problems. He also noted multiple CDOT street/sidewalk work projects in the ward (including alley reconstructions, residential resurfacing, and a cul-de-sac), plus reminders to check the street-sweeping schedule and use the Sweeper Tracker for real-time updates. Other major announcements include a community flood-prevention callout and construction updates, Friends of the Parks community dialogues, and several neighborhood events such as a back-to-school youth basketball tournament, an animal adoption event July 5–26 (with Pupapalooza on July 18), and a health/resource fair on September 24, 2026.

Streets and Sanitation Dept. Issues Ticketing & Tow Mandate

Storm damage calls have flooded our office during the past couple of weeks, which explains the news the Department of Streets and Sanitation delivered at last week's town hall meeting. For those who were unable to attend, they announced that, starting July 20, vehicles will be ticketed and towed if parked on a street-sweeping route.

How does street sweeping relate to storms? Debris from high winds and storms can clog gutters, storm drains, and catch basins, causing flooding. Standing water is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Street sweeping helps us avoid these problems.

If cars block the path of the street sweepers, they can't clear the gutters and drains beneath them. To ensure that every 5th Ward street is totally clear, all cars must be removed by the owner—or the City will do it.

To help you avoid these hazardous and unhealthy conditions, parking tickets, and the cost of a tow, Streets and Sans has posted its street-sweeping schedule online. You can find the full 5th Ward schedule, starting in April, here. For your convenience, we have created a July-through-November schedule. Click below to download and print or save as a PDF.

Locate the section of the ward where you reside, check the street-sweeping dates, and be alert for no-parking signage.

If you want to see how close they are on the day of your street cleaning, you can also view the street sweepers in real time using the Department's Sweeper Tracker online tool.

I hope you find this information helpful.
