Alderman Nicholas Sposato's 38th Ward Update

Nicholas Sposato Ward 38 ✉️ [email protected]
Relevance: 2/10

Summary

In an update for Chicago’s 38th Ward, Alderman Nicholas Sposato says he will allocate most of his 2026 $1.5 million Aldermanic Menu budget to resurfacing the worst residential streets after winter damage, with estimates of about $70,000–$75,000 per street and about $50,000–$25,000 for alley resurfacing and alley aprons. The newsletter does not mention any zoning/hearing, housing/transit policy changes, development approvals, or specific street-safety redesign projects—he mainly emphasizes funding priorities and asks residents to contact his office with concerns. Other items include a call to support St. Cyprian Food Pantry, local notices/resources (library/park district/schools and Early Learning preschool applications), a local business highlight, job listings, and an animal adoption/fostering promotion for “Hobbs.”

April 23rd Update

Dear Friend,

Spring is here and it is time for me to decide which projects to fund from my 2026 Aldermanic Menu. I am allocated $1.5 million per year to spend in our ward for improvements. It sounds like a lot, but as with any budget it does not go as far as you would think! To resurface a residential street costs roughly $70,000 to $75,000. If I spend my entire budget on resurfacing just streets it would only be enough to do roughly 20 streets.

Once again, the winter has wreaked havoc on our streets, and I will allocate the majority of my money to resurface the worst of them. Smooth driving surfaces benefit many people, not just those living on the block.

I understand that many people have issues in their alleys or any other number of things that require Aldermanic funds to complete. Resurfacing an alley costs roughly $50,000, and an alley apron costs roughly $25,000 to redo. Streets are the number one priority for the vast majority of our residents. I am sure that you understand that I have a fixed budget and will try to spend it in a way that benefits the majority of residents.

Please feel free to call my office with concerns or suggestions as soon as possible if you feel your street is in dire need of resurfacing or if you have any other questions. I will do my best to do what is in the best interests of the 38th Ward.

Sincerely,

RESCUE ME

Meet Hobbs! A very distinguished name for a very distinguished face. You can see it in the looks he gives, especially if treats are late! Equal parts charm and judgment. He knows sit, down and exactly how to win you over.

He's a happy, smart and good boy but the waiting is starting to wear on him. Day after day, same routine. Not always getting outside, not enough chances to just be someone's dog. He's not stressed but just a little dimmer than when he arrived.

For more information on Hobbs and the many other dogs waiting patiently to be rescued, click HERE or visit their Facebook page: CACC Adoptable Pets. To learn more about fostering, click HERE.
