32nd Ward Newsletter March 27, 2026 | | |
Dear John,
Earth Month is only a few days away, so we have numerous environmental events in the eblast below (along with some handy spring cleaning sites for those of you cleaning up at home).
This week we welcome Municipal Barber into the ward! They are not your standard barber shop as they also offer simulated golf as well. See below for their offers for their grand opening.
Last week, one of our long standing businesses dealt with a very upsetting crash and grab. This took out two of their windows and their ATM. If you can, please stop by and support their business. The Golden Apple has been part of the Lakeview community for 50 years! It's a traditional diner open 24 hours known for its gorgeous patio and yummy breakfasts. Please show them some love and help them recoup their losses.
Please check out the upcoming seminars from the Committee of Immigrant and Refugee Rights below. One includes the process and best practices for Emergency Family Planning.
Lastly, there's also a No Kings march scheduled tomorrow downtown as well as smaller ones in other locations in the City; please be aware as these will affect traffic.
Enjoy your weekend,
Alderman Scott Waguespack

Beat 1931 Meeting Recap (Belmont/Ashland/river)
There was one shooting in this beat at Fullerton and Ashland. It is unknown if this was an attempted carjacking as the victim is not being cooperative with the police.
There was robbery in the shopping center at 1700 W. Fullerton; the store’s camera’s were not working. There were two burglaries, one to a store whose cameras were offline and nothing was taken and one to a garage where a scooter was taken.
There were 39 theft to vehicles including 6 of vehicles themselves. 10 were of Honda airbags; there is a vehicle safety event for 19th District residents this Saturday; please see flyer below and make sure to make a reservation with the 19th CAPS office as spaces are limited.
For concerns from the audience, there were concerns about a party house on Clybourn; our office has contacted the landlord about this; the police also were involved in a neighbor meeting about this property. There was a concern about garbage cart fires on Terra Cotta; this is not an arson case as of now. There was also a concern about people accessing the south side of Lathrop through the fence; the police will watch out for this and it was also brought up at the separate Lathrop security meeting.
| | 2026 Street Cleaning Schedule | | |
Street cleaning starts on Wednesday, April 1st. Sweepers will do more than one pass on the block in their initial cleaning but will not come back to clean sections outside of their officially scheduled day.
The first week of April, street sweeping will occur in sections 6 and 7 (West Lakeview and Hamlin Park). Click on the map above to see your section's schedule.
Please be on the lookout for signs and make sure to move your vehicle on your scheduled day (south and east sides of the street are normally done on the first day, north and west on the second; please watch for signs).
Please take the time to help clear the curb in front of your property to keep the sewers flowing well. Any leftover landscaping debris from winter months should be bagged and put in the alley by your trash cans. Please do not sweep landscaping debris into the street. Piles of leaves and heavy garbage also clog the sweepers and will cause significant delays. Other large objects like branches will also damage the sweepers, so please remove them from curbs.
Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool.

Food scrap drop off
| | Lincoln Belmont Library Composting Site | |
The City of Chicago offers a citywide Food Scrap Drop-Off Program, and all Chicago residents are welcome to drop off their household food scraps for composting at one of 33 locations across the city– for FREE! We have one of these sites right here in the 32nd Ward at the Lincoln Belmont Library at 1659 W. Melrose.
Composting keeps food scraps out of landfills, reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions, and recycles nutrients that enrich soil. Since the City's program started in 2023, over a million pounds of food waste has been diverted from landfills.
The program is free and open to all Chicago residents. To get started, residents can sign up at chi.gov/composting and watch a short instructional video. Residents can then start collecting their household food waste and bring it to the green carts at their selected drop-off site as often as needed. Accepted materials include all types of food scraps, including meat, bones and dairy. Non-food waste is not accepted. DSS collects the food waste, and it is transported to a local facility in Chicago where it’s processed into nutrient-rich compost.

Rain barrels capture rainwater from your roof and save it for later use. Rain barrels can help prevent basement backups, street flooding, and sewer overflows by keeping rainwater out of the sewer system.
You can use rain barrel water to:
- Wash your car
- Water your lawn or garden
- Clean work boots, tools, and bikes
Rain barrel water is naturally free of chlorine, lime, and calcium and some gardeners swear their plants prefer it!
In addition to rain barrels, the MWRD also offers free tree saplings. Click here for more information on this program.

Stop by in your car, and volunteers will unload personal electronics, office/industrial equipment, kitchenware, small furniture items, and more. We work with tech recycling and charity partners to either recycle or donate items to Chicagoans in need! Click here for more information.
