A Message from Alderman Sigcho-Lopez – October 2025
On behalf of the 25th Ward Office, I want to extend my warmest greetings to you as we enter November, a month centered on gratitude, reflection, and care for one another.
As we prepare for the holiday season, our office remains committed to ensuring that no one in our community is left behind. With the recent end of SNAP benefits, we know that many families are facing uncertainty around food access. We encourage residents to contact our office for information on food pantries and upcoming food giveaways hosted by local organizations. In addition, our annual Turkey Giveaway is approaching in anticipation of Thanksgiving.
To receive a turkey, preregistration is required, please email [email protected] or call 773-523-4100. The deadline to sign up is Friday, November 14, or while supplies last. Turkeys will be delivered during the week of November 16.
Our office also continues its work to ensure that residents know their rights. With the ongoing federal ICE presence in Chicago, it is crucial that our immigrant neighbors stay informed and protected. We encourage you to visit the Chicago PROTECT website for resources on immigrant rights and legal support. Locally, the Pilsen Rapid Response Network (PUÑO) continues to serve as a vital community-led effort responding quickly to immigration enforcement actions and providing direct support to families. If you witness any ICE activity, please contact ICIRR or our office immediately for assistance.
Now more than ever, we must continue to look out for one another and strengthen the ties that make our neighborhoods resilient. Whether it’s fighting for fair budgets, supporting working families, or defending the dignity of all who call our ward home, our office remains grounded in solidarity, compassion, and collective care.

En nombre de la Oficina del Distrito 25, quiero extenderles un cordial saludo al comenzar noviembre, un mes dedicado a la gratitud, la reflexión y el cuidado mutuo.
Al prepararnos para la temporada festiva, nuestra oficina reafirma su compromiso de que nadie en nuestra comunidad se quede atrás. Con la reciente finalización de los beneficios de SNAP, sabemos que muchas familias enfrentan incertidumbre respecto al acceso a alimentos. Les animamos a comunicarse con nuestra oficina para obtener información sobre despensas de alimentos y próximas distribuciones organizadas por grupos locales. Además, se acerca nuestra entrega anual de pavos en anticipación al Día de Acción de Gracias.
Para recibir un pavo, se requiere registro previo. Por favor envíen un correo a [email protected] o llamen al 773-523-4100. La fecha límite para inscribirse es el viernes 14 de noviembre, o hasta agotar existencias. Los pavos se entregarán durante la semana del 16 de noviembre.
Nuestra oficina también continúa trabajando para que los residentes conozcan sus derechos. Con la continua presencia del ICE federal en Chicago, es fundamental que nuestros vecinos inmigrantes se mantengan informados y protegidos. Les invitamos a visitar el sitio web de Chicago PROTECT para acceder a recursos sobre derechos de inmigrantes y apoyo legal. A nivel local, la Red de Respuesta Rápida de Pilsen (PUÑO) sigue siendo un esfuerzo comunitario esencial que responde rápidamente ante acciones de control migratorio y brinda asistencia directa a las familias afectadas. Si observan actividad del ICE, por favor comuniquense de inmediato con ICIRR o con nuestra oficina.
Ahora más que nunca, debemos cuidarnos unos a otros y fortalecer los lazos que hacen que nuestros vecindarios sean resilientes. Ya sea luchando por presupuestos justos, apoyando a las familias trabajadoras o defendiendo la dignidad de quienes llaman hogar a nuestro distrito, nuestra oficina sigue guiada por la solidaridad, la compasión y el cuidado colectivo.

We’re excited to invite local seniors to a free visit to the Art Institute of Chicago on Tuesday, December 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in collaboration with Dvorak Park.

Help impact the life of a Chicago student! Tutoring Chicago matches students facing economic barriers with volunteer tutors on a one-to-one basis. Pairs meet once a week for 90 minutes--virtually or in-person--during the school year. No experience is necessary; Tutoring Chicago provides all materials and training and volunteers select the schedule, method and grade level (1st-12th) that works for them.
Tutoring Chicago is currently seeking volunteer tutors for the 2025-26 school year, the organization’s 60th anniversary year! Learn more and apply at the Tutoring Chicago website.
