Thank you to NODE and QUILT for hosting the Broadband Access for Brighter Futures event!

As the Chairman of the Committee on Economics, Capital, and Technology Development, seeing community stakeholders advocating for better internet access for all residents is encouraging. Being connected is a major part of our daily lives and I'm happy to stand with those looking to increase access for all.

Alderman Villegas Spoke with WGN on Data Residency in Chicago and How That Can Help Chip Away at the City's Deficit

Our city is facing an almost billion-dollar deficit. We need innovative solutions that will chip away at that and bring us closer to balancing the books. Data residency will generate new revenue for the city, bring vacant properties back onto the tax row, and create job opportunities for our communities.
Help for Homeowners Event at the 36th Ward Office!

We hosted our first Help for Homeowners event. A Northwest Equity Assurance Program (NWEAP) speaker was present to answer your questions and provide assistance.

POLICY UPDATES FROM ALDERMAN VILLEGAS

✍🏽 INTRODUCED: Rogue Towing

Alderman Villegas and the 36th Ward team have championed this issue and we are continuing to push forward to ensure that residents are protected from rogue towers.

The Rogue Towing Ordinance was officially introduced at City Council on Wednesday, September 18th. This is a huge step in making sure drivers are no longer taken advantage of by rogue towing companies.

CBS covered the Alderman's ordinance in a recent story, watch it here.

✅ PASSED: Sidewalk Ordinance

Yesterday in City Council, my Sidewalk Ordinance was approved. Effective immediately, any permitted construction, development, or work that results in the removal of 60 percent or more of the sidewalk on a block now has to coordinate with the Chicago Department of transportation (CDOT) on full restoration.

Our pedestrian way needs to be in good condition for all residents. No more fractured sidewalk squares adjacent to recently restored ones.

✅ PASSED: Data Residency Ordinance

Yesterday, the data residency ordinance was approved by City Council. With this approval, the city of Chicago takes a major step forward in incentivizing data center development. This is a huge economic win, a technological win, and a win for our residents!

Data Center development will generate new revenue for the city, bring vacant properties back onto the tax roll, and sets Chicago up to capitalize on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

The Chicago Suntimes Editorial Board recently wrote about the Alderman's Data Residency Ordinance, read it here.

KEEPING OUR WARD CLEAN
🚨 Stop by the 36th Ward Office to get a "Pick Up After Your Pet" Sign! With the warm weather starting up again, it's important to remind our neighbors to clean up after their pets. Let's keep our streets clean together! 🐕‍🦺

➡️ Residents, please REMOVE any and all materials that you are using in the street to save yourself a parking spot. If things are seen on the parkway, they will be moved out of the street. If they are placed there again, the Chicago Department of Streets & Sanitation will remove these materials.

🗑♻️ As always, please REPORT any excess trash you see on the streets. Put in a request to 311.chicago.gov & email a picture to [email protected]. Be sure to include the address and a description of the issue in the email. You can also call our office at 312-744-4324.

PROMOTING COMMUNITY SAFETY
- Our office works closely with the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff's Office to respond to crimes and keep our residents safe.
- As a reminder, always CALL 911 whenever you see a crime or suspicious activity occurring. That is the only way for CPD to know when & where to target their responses.
- Attend a community meeting with your Police District! At the bottom of this email, you will find the CAPS Police Beat Meeting Schedules for the 11th, 12th, and 25th Police Districts. Find your Police District & Beat here: operations.chicagopolice.org/FindMyDistrict
