A Message from Alderman Sigcho-Lopez – October 2025
On behalf of the 25th Ward Office, I want to extend my warmest greetings to you as we enter October, a month filled with reflection, celebration, and movement in our communities.
October is Hispanic Heritage Month—a time to honor the culture, history, and resilience of Latino communities who have long shaped Pilsen, Little Village, and neighborhoods across Chicago. Our ward is proud to be rooted in this legacy, where traditions, language, art, and activism continue to uplift generations and inspire the future. It is through this strength that we carry forward our shared commitment to dignity, justice, and community care.
This month also marks the start of an important process at City Hall. On Tuesday, October 15, Mayor Johnson will announce his proposed City budget. Following this, members of City Council will engage in budget briefings before ultimately voting on the final budget. This process is critical, as it determines how our resources will be invested and how city priorities will reflect the needs of working families, immigrants, and our most vulnerable neighbors.
To ensure our community is informed and engaged, we invite you to our State of the Ward Community Meeting on Thursday, October 16, from 6:00–7:30 PM at 18th Street Casa de Cultura. Together we will review the budget process, highlight the progress we have made in the 25th Ward throughout 2025, and discuss what comes next. There will be free food, and we encourage all neighbors to join, learn, and share your voices.
In addition, our office remains committed to ensuring that residents know their rights. With ongoing federal ICE presence in Chicago, it is important to stay informed and protected. We encourage you to visit the Chicago PROTECT website for resources on immigrant rights and legal support. Locally, the Pilsen Rapid Response Network, PUÑO, continues to serve as a vital community-led effort to respond quickly to immigration enforcement actions and provide assistance to families in need. Please help spread awareness so that all our neighbors can access these critical resources.
As always, our office is here to serve you. Whether it’s fighting for fair budgets, connecting families with resources, or protecting the dignity of all who call our ward home, we remain grounded in solidarity and care.

En representación de la Oficina del Distrito 25, quiero expresarles mi más cordial saludo al comenzar octubre, un mes lleno de reflexión, celebración y movimiento en nuestras comunidades.
Octubre es el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, un momento para honrar la cultura, la historia y la resiliencia de las comunidades latinas que durante mucho tiempo han dado forma a Pilsen, Little Village y los barrios de Chicago. Nuestra oficina se enorgullece de estar enraizada en este legado, donde las tradiciones, el idioma, el arte y el activismo continúan elevando a las generaciones e inspirando el futuro. Es a través de esta fortaleza que llevamos adelante nuestro compromiso compartido con la dignidad, la justicia y el cuidado de la comunidad.
Este mes también marca el inicio de un importante proceso en el Municipio. El martes 15 de octubre, el alcalde Johnson anunciará su propuesta de presupuesto municipal. A continuación, los miembros del Concejo Municipal participarán en reuniones informativas sobre el presupuesto antes de votar finalmente el presupuesto final. Este proceso es fundamental, ya que determina cómo se invertirán nuestros recursos y cómo las prioridades de la ciudad reflejarán las necesidades de las familias trabajadoras, los inmigrantes y nuestros.
Para garantizar que nuestra comunidad esté informada y participando, los invitamos a nuestra Reunión Comunitaria sobre el Estado del Distrito el jueves 16 de octubre, de 6:00 a 7:30 p. m., en la 18 Calle Casa de Cultura. Juntos repasaremos el proceso presupuestario, destacaremos el progreso que hemos logrado en el Distrito 25 a lo largo de 2025 y discutiremos lo que viene después.
