Summary

Alderman Scott Waguespack of the 32nd Ward reports that a new water main will be installed at the Dickens and Damen intersection, prompting a daytime detour of northbound and southbound traffic on Damen from March 9 to March 13, with streets reopening overnight. The water main reconstruction, part of a broader infrastructure upgrade that includes replacing lead service lines and installing new copper connections, will also involve scheduled water shutdowns and street closures, and the alderman encourages residents to support local businesses during the work. Additional announcements include early‑voting information for the March 17 primary, details on secure drop boxes, and updates on park program registrations and community events.

Water Main Project Update 3/9/26

Dickens, Damen to Avondale

DAMEN REROUTE

The water main on Dickens from Avondale to Damen is being reconstructed after the water main, which is over 100 years old, needs to be rebuilt due to the deteriorating state of the newer home pipe connections over the past couple decades. Crews will also be installing new copper connections and removing lead service lines.
One crew will be on Dickens and Damen intersection Monday, March 9 through Wednesday, March 11 installing the new water main. From Thursday, March 12 Friday through March 13, crews will be testing and doing any corrective work on installations at the Dickens & Damen intersection.

A second crew will also be on Dickens between Wolcott & Avondale working west from Monday, March 9 through Friday, March 13 with lead service replacements and main installation work continuing on Dickens for several more weeks.

Water Service Interruptions:

There will be a scheduled water main shutdown on Monday, March 9 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. DWM will provide advance notice prior to any service interruptions. Affected areas include Dickens between Wolcott and Honore, and Wolcott between Dickens and Armitage.
