Dear Neighbors,

Last night, a 30-year-old man was shot and killed near the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Webster Avenue after a fight broke out at a nearby bar (which is currently unidentified). One person of interest is in custody and homicide detectives are actively working the case. At this time, we have limited information related to the connection between the victim and the offender. As we receive further updates from the Chicago Police Department, we will share with the community.

Since earlier this summer, my office has led an aggressive push for further restrictions on late night bars on this stretch of Lincoln Avenue. I am hopeful and confident that the Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection will view this homicide as sufficient evidence of the need to support specific restrictions on this stretch. Regularly, I speak to business owners on this stretch who agree that additional restrictions will benefit a corridor that has been refreshed with many great new storefronts. They are our partners in this work, as is the Chicago Police Department which has assured us that the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue will receive additional patrol and a permanent patrol on weekend hours.

If you have any video or other information that may be of use to the police, please call Area 3 Detectives at (312) 744-8263, email [email protected], submit a tip here, or call the 18th district police station at (312) 742-5870.

This homicide should have never occurred and I send my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim. Thank you to the Chicago Fire Department medics who responded on-site, and the Chicago Police Department for their hard work each and every day. Our office stands with them to ensure they have the resources they need to charge the offender and tools to ensure it does not happen again.

Sincerely,

Alderman Timmy Knudsen
