| | Dear Neighbor,
We have some exciting news to share! On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Housing (DOH) announced that 15 affordable housing developments across the city will receive City assistance and federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), including the Metropolitan L Apartments proposal for 2525 N. Kedzie in Logan Square in the 35th Ward. |
|
|
| The Metropolitan L Apartments proposal from the Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation will include up to 96 units of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom 100% affordable apartments, and over 2,500 square feet of below-market rate subdividable retail space along Kedzie Avenue right off of the Logan Square Blue Line station.
Since becoming Alderman in April 2025, I have made affordability and preventing displacement my top priority. This investment is a direct result of that work and a step forward in keeping Logan Square accessible to the families who built this community. I am so excited for this announcement, and I look forward to working collaboratively with DOH, Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation, and our community on this exciting project.
As part of our 35th Ward Community-Driven Zoning and Development process, a community meeting will be scheduled later this year following receipt of an updated proposal from Bickerdike. Stay tuned for more information.
On Wednesday, I met with representatives from the Department of Water Management regarding upcoming sewer and water main infrastructure improvements in Irving Park. As previously mentioned in our newsletter, this work will include water main replacement and lead service line replacements on St. Louis, Bernard, and Kimball Avenues, between Addison and Elston, Sewer main replacement on Waveland between Central Park and Kimball Avenues and on portions of Drake and Central Park to the north of Waveland, and lead service line replacements on Drake and Central Park between Waveland and Grace. |

|
| This long-awaited multi-million dollar project will modernize aging infrastructure, improve stormwater management, and help provide cleaner drinking water for hundreds of families in our community. We are working proactively with the Department of Water Management to put systems in place to manage inconveniences associated with the project. We invite you to join us for a community meeting to discuss the project in detail on Thursday, April 9th, at 6 pm at Murphy School, located at 3539 W Grace Street. |

|
| This past Wednesday, April 1st, marked the day that the expanded Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) Ordinance went into effect, which more than doubled the number of parcels eligible for establishing ADUs citywide. I was proud to support the ordinance to expand ADUs, and proactively opted the 35th Ward into this program. Since Wednesday when the ordinance took effect, our office received notification of 8 ADU applications in the 35th Ward. We hope that the ordinance can be a tool to increase housing supply and create more affordable housing in our community. The Department of Housing has launched a new website and digital portal regarding these updates. You can learn more at chicago.gov/adu.
In other exciting news, the Chicago Park District has announced that Unity Park in Logan Square will be getting a new water feature this year! The park district will rehabilitate the existing spray pool by converting it into a splash pad, which will make it accessible for children with limited mobility. Community members are invited to vote on their design preference now through May 1st, online or at our ward office. You can find images of two designs in our ward updates section below.
Tomorrow, State Senator Graciela Guzman and I will be having a coffee and conversation event in Irving Park, from 12:30-2:30 pm at Trigger Chicago at 2810 W. Addison Street. This is an opportunity to build community with neighbors, speak to the senator and me about local concerns, and to submit service requests. We are planning additional coffee and conversation events across the ward in the coming months. Be on the lookout for one near you! |

|
| Finally, I want to congratulate NASA and the astronaut crew aboard the Orion spacecraft, who had a successful rocket launch this past Wednesday. The Artemis II space mission marks the return of humans around the Moon for the first time in over 50 years, and is the beginning of a broader mission for long-term presence on the Moon and beyond. I am wishing the crew a safe journey around the moon and back home to Earth. I encourage you to learn more about their mission at www.nasa.gov. Enjoy this beautiful image of Earth that was taken by the crew earlier today. |

|
| Hope you have a great weekend, and happy Easter to all that celebrate!
Sincerely,
Anthony J. Quezada Alderman, 35th Ward

The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and SomerCor has rolled out the Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) grant program for applications in the Kennedy/Kimball TIF district.
The SBIF program uses revenue from TIF districts to help owners of commercial and industrial properties to repair or remodel their facilities for their own business or on behalf of tenants. Tenant businesses are also eligible to apply on their own.
Please note that residential projects are not eligible for the SBIF program, and residential developers should not apply.
Program participants can receive grants for 30 to 90 percent of project costs, with a maximum grant of $150,000 for commercial properties and $250,000 for industrial properties. The grants are administered by SomerCor on the City’s behalf and do not have to be repaid.

| | Request to Lift Liquor Moratorium for Reactivation of Former Crown Liquors Space, 2821 N Milwaukee Avenue
The 35th Ward Office has received a request to lift the moratorium on new consumption on premise liquor licenses on Milwaukee Avenue between Kimball and Central Park. Isaac Lieberman is seeking to lift the moratorium to establish a new tavern in the former Crown Liquors Space at 2821 N Milwaukee Ave. In line with 35th Ward Office policy, Mr. Lieberman attended the CAPS meeting for beat 1412 on Tuesday, Tuesday, Mar 24th, 2026, to introduce himself and answer any questions from neighbors. In line with our process for evaluating requests to lift liquor moratoriums, we will accept feedback on this request until Friday, April 10, at 5pm. At the end of this two week period, the Alderman will determine whether to introduce an ordinance to lift the moratorium in City Council based on the feedback we receive. You can provide your feedback here. |
