39th Ward Newsletter
April 10, 2026

Dear Neighbor,

Spring is a busy time across the 39th Ward, and as the weather warms, it’s important we’re keeping our community clean and well maintained. As we take advantage of more opportunities to get outside and take pride in our neighborhood together, I want to share a few important updates and ways you can get involved in keeping the 39th Ward welcoming and accessible for everyone.

The 39th Ward is excited to partner with the City of Chicago and local Community Associations for our annual Clean and Green Day on April 18 and we are seeking student volunteers! Students can earn service hours while giving back to our community through activities like picking up litter, pruning bushes, sweeping public areas, and supporting general beautification efforts throughout the ward. To sign up, please click here. I hope to see you there!

We are also making an important change to our street sweeping schedule. For years, the sweeping map in our area was based on outdated precinct boundaries drawn decades ago. This meant that some streets were cleaned more frequently than others, without reflecting current needs.Starting this season, we are updating that system to ensure a more equitable and effective approach. The new schedule is designed so that streets are swept more often, with every block receiving at least four sweepings through November. This change ensures every part of the ward benefits from an additional pass, helping to keep our streets clean, reduce debris buildup, and improve overall conditions across the ward.

As we continue spring cleanup at home, I also want to remind everyone about proper yard waste disposal. As a reminder, yard waste should be placed in designated bags and left in your alley for pickup. If you have a large amount of yard waste or need assistance, please contact our office and we can coordinate with the Department of Streets and Sanitation to have our Ward Superintendent assist with proper disposal. Taking these extra steps helps keep our alleys clear and ensures waste is handled the right way.

Taking care of our neighborhood is a shared effort, and I’m grateful for all the residents who take pride in where we live. Thank you for doing your part to keep the 39th Ward a safe and welcoming place.

As always, my office is here to help. We are located at 4200 W. Lawrence Ave. and are open Mondays from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please contact us at 773.736.5594 or [email protected] if you need any city services or have any questions.

Sincerely,

Alderman Samantha Nugent
