As we get closer to the Fourth of July, fireworks are becoming a nuisance once again. Fireworks are illegal in the City of Chicago and can be traumatizing for veterans and animals. 38th Ward residents take pride in being a respectful community, let's keep that in mind this holiday by being considerate of our neighbors. As a safer alternative, please consider attending professional firework displays organized by trained pyrotechnicians.
If you have neighbors that use fireworks every Fourth of July, feel free to report it to our office (773-283-3838) or to the 16th District CAPS office (312-742-4521) so that we can add the address to their special attention list. As you may know, I patrol the 38th Ward with the 16th District every Fourth of July to keep our parks, schools, and churches safe. Working together we can do our best to eliminate some of the dangerous fireworks that cause many fires and injuries every year.

Due to the upcoming holiday, there will be a change in the refuse collection schedule. Black and blue carts will not be collected on Friday, July 3rd. Collection will resume Monday, July 6th. Please ensure all refuse carts are accessible throughout the week and not solely on the usual day of pick up until they are serviced.
The 38th Ward Office will close at 3:00pm on Thursday, July 2nd and will remain closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of the Independence Day holiday. We will reopen on Monday, July 6th at 9:00am.

Meet Alba! Look at this face...how has no one scooped up Alba yet? This tiny brindle girl has been waiting since March 13th after being left behind by her owners. Somehow, she is still happy, hopeful and excited every time volunteers stop by. Alba is petite, cheerful, affectionate and adores her time with people. Treats are a close second because this smart girl loves to learn and engage. Tiny body with a giant heart, still waiting for her new family. To see Alba in action, click HERE.
