March 5th Update

Dear Friend,

Exemption applications for tax year 2025 will be available online on Monday, March 9th. The Homeowner, Senior, and Persons with Disabilities Exemptions are automatically renewed. Homeowners must reapply for the Veterans with Disabilities and the “Senior Freeze” Exemptions. Seniors and veterans that need to reapply will be mailed application booklets in the coming weeks.

New homeowners, first-time applicants, or those that need to reapply can do so HERE. Homeowners are strongly encouraged to apply online so there is a digital record of their application. This allows Assessor staff to easily locate the application, provide a status update, and notify the homeowner if missing documents are needed. If you have any questions, contact us at 773-283-3838. Please note: exemptions are only reflected on your second installment property tax bill.

EARLY VOTING

Early Voting for the Primary Election is open in all 50 Wards now through March 17th (Election Day). The 38th Ward Early Voting site is located at Hiawatha Park, 8029 W Forest Preserve. Another nearby Early Voting site is the West Belmont Library at 3104 N Narragansett.

Early Voting will be open weekdays 9am to 6pm, Saturdays 9am to 5pm, Sundays 10am to 4pm and on Election Day 6am to 7pm. Please note that any voter in Chicago can vote at any Early Voting site, no matter where they live in the City. Voters can choose whatever site is most convenient for them, including on Election Day.

COMMUNITY MEETING

The Chicago Department of Transportation is proposing a new network of bikeways in the Portage Park neighborhood. Take a moment to view the video of the proposed corridors and types of infrastructure.
