Call for Artists: Request for Qualifications- 35th Ward Mural Projects
In 2025, 35th Ward residents voted to dedicate funding through the 35th Ward Participatory Budgeting Program for Public Art and Beautification of Public Spaces. Two winning project proposals were the installation of murals on viaducts at 3401 N Kimball and 3040 N Sacramento. The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), in partnership with the 35th Ward Office, invites professional artists, artist teams, and arts organizations based in Chicago to submit qualifications. Community Development Grants OPEN
The City of Chicago is taking applications for Community Development Grants (CDG) for small and medium grants to support a variety of eligible, business-related investments that create and maintain jobs and quality-of-life improvements for local residents. Irving Park Department of Water Management Project 7578 Updates
This week, the Department of Water Management completed 9 Lead Service Line Replacements (LSLR) on the 3700 block of N St Louis! In the coming weeks, they will continue to work on LSLRs on N St Louis between Elston and Waveland. Please note that if you have not yet received notice from the Department of Water Management and you do not reside between these street boundaries, you can expect further communication related to LSLRs once the contractors have started work on your block.
The Department of Water Management also continued installing the new sewer main heading East on Waveland between N St Louis and N Bernard. They installed a new sewer manhole and completed the side connections to the new structure at the Waveland and Bernard intersection and completed the cut and cap of the existing water main at Waveland and Bernard.
Sewer/Water Schedule - July 27th, 2026 - July 31st, 2026
The Department of Water Management will continue their work installing the new sewer main eastward on Waveland between N St Louis and N Kimball. They also anticipate completing a ‘cut and cap’ reconnection of the existing water main at the intersection of Waveland and Bernard. Please note that there is an interruption of water service anticipated and scheduled to be completed on 7/27/26 (time is currently TBD) – Crews should have notified residents in the affected area of the water service interruption occurring on Monday (7/27/26). Residents should also be directly notified when water service has been restored.
In the next week, DWM will also continue transfers of services (Lead Service Line Replacements) to the new water main throughout the week on N St Louis between Elston and Waveland.
3600 N Sacramento Upcoming Department of Water Management Work
Last week, the contractors continued the water main and sewer installation beginning at W Waveland avenue, working south on Sacramento towards W Addison. Existing utility lines were found to be restricting access to the final portion of the water main work. Contractors are working in coordination with the proper utility companies to facilitate service relocations so they can resume their work. This action is anticipated to be completed next week, so the water work will resume the following week.
Fullerton Avenue Arterial Resurfacing
The contractor this past week performed concrete removals and pouring on Fullerton, between Karlov and Central Park at several locations. Next week, the contractor intends to mill the existing asphalt on Fullerton, between Karlov and Kimball, start placing the first layer of asphalt, and begin utility adjustments.
In the upcoming week to two weeks, the contractor intends to continue their concrete work on Fullerton between Lockwood and Karlov, and later begin laying the final layer of asphalt.
Upcoming Paseo Prairie Garden Work Days
The Friends of Paseo Prairie Garden will be hosting upcoming volunteer work days. Each work day will be held from 10am-11:30am at Paseo Prairie Community Garden, located at 2614 N Kedzie, and volunteers can assist with weeding, trash pickup, watering and planting.

West Chicago Township Property Assessment Appeals NOW OPEN
Residents of the 35th ward that reside within the West Chicago township may a file an appeal of their assessment until August 21st. Check your township here. If you think the estimated market value of your home is incorrect, you should file an appeal if you have not done so recently. This is the last year for appeals until the next reassessment year for Chicago, meaning if people have appealed already once since 2024, there is no need to reappeal this year. Our joint office with Commissioner Jessica Vazquez, located at 2934 N Milwaukee, Unit C, is taking appointments for appeals, please call (312) 603-6386 to schedule an appointment.
Cook County Board of Review Pre-File Appeals NOW OPEN
The Cook County Board of Review has officially opened the tax year 2026 session and ALL property owners may Pre-File an appeal with the Cook County Board of Review now OR you can wait and file an appeal when your township appeal period opens. If you have already had a reduction through a successful appeal in the last 2 years, we would not encourage you to file another appeal this year. As a reminder you can appeal your assessment every year with the Cook County Assessor's Office and with the Cook County Board of Review. You can appeal online via this link. School Supplies Drive until August 7
Our office is collecting school supplies in partnership with the offices of State Representative Will Guzzardi (IL-39) and State Senator Graciela Guzman (IL-20) until Friday, August 7. Donations of new school supplies such as backpacks, pencils, pens, highlighters, notebook paper, folders, binders, spiral and composition notebooks, tissue packs, hand sanitizer, erasers, pencil cases, pencil sharpeners, crayons, and markers are greatly appreciated.
