Ronnie Mosley Ward 21
Relevance: 0/10

Summary

Alderman Ronnie L. Mosley (21st Ward) provided a storm recovery update after severe weather caused widespread power outages, fallen trees and branches, downed wires, traffic signal outages, and localized flooding, with additional severe weather and extreme heat possible later today. The office reports nearly 17,000 residents impacted by outages (more than 7,300 restored so far) and ongoing city and utility responses, urging residents to file storm issues via CHI311 and to report downed wires or immediate threats to 311. Other major note: no zoning, policy, budget, transit, or infrastructure decisions were mentioned—this newsletter focused solely on weather alert and recovery efforts.

Email from Office of Alderman Ronnie L. Mosley, 21st Ward Alderman

21st Ward Family,

Yesterday's severe storms left a significant impact across our community. Throughout the 21st Ward, residents experienced power outages, fallen trees and branches, downed wires, traffic signal outages, and localized flooding. As crews continue recovery efforts, forecasters are warning that another round of severe weather and extreme heat may impact our area later today.

Our office has been in communication with ComEd, OEMC, Streets and Sanitation, Forestry, CDOT, Water Management, and other City departments throughout the response and recovery effort. We are actively monitoring conditions and advocating for resources where they are needed most.

Since yesterday, the 21st Ward has recorded:

  • Nearly 17,000 residents impacted by power outages
  • More than 7,300 residents already restored to service
  • 379 tree emergencies
  • 108 tree debris cleanup requests
  • 43 street light outages
  • 24 downed wire reports
  • 20 traffic signal outages

While these numbers reflect the storm's impact, they also reflect the tremendous amount of work currently underway across our neighborhoods.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting storm-related concerns through CHI311, online at 311.chicago.gov, or by calling 311. If you contact our office, please include the exact address, a description of the issue, and photographs whenever possible. This information helps us better advocate for response and recovery efforts.

If your power remains out:

• Report your outage to ComEd by texting OUT to 26633

• Stay away from any downed wires and report them immediately

• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible

• Charge essential devices when power is available

• Check on seniors, individuals with disabilities, and neighbors who may need assistance

For situations, including downed power lines, injuries, fires, or situations posing an immediate threat to life or property, call 311 immediately.

I want to thank our first responders, utility crews, city workers, and neighbors who have worked tirelessly since the storm. I also want to thank the dedicated crews from Streets and Sanitation, Forestry, utility partners, and our neighbors who continue to work long hours restoring services throughout our community.

The strength of a neighborhood is revealed during challenging moments. Please continue checking on one another, remain weather aware, and stay safe as additional weather moves through our area.

Together, we will recover and continue Building Community, Thriving Together.

Alderman Ronnie L. Mosley
