Dear Neighbor,
The 17th District Police responded to calls of shots fired on Sunday, March 15th, at the intersection of Bryn Mawr and Kostner Avenues around 6:30 p.m.
Following notice of the incident, our office requested special police attention for the neighborhood. This often comes in the form of additional unmarked police cars patrolling the area.
Thank you to the neighbors who called 911 when they heard shots being fired. This situation was unique in that it was not immediately confirmed bona fide by the 17th Police District. On Monday, March 16th, our office worked with neighbors to send video footage to the 17th Police District and gather additional information that has been helpful in the case. While the investigation is ongoing, additional details have emerged, and evidence has been recovered. Since this information was received in the days following the incident, a community safety email update was not sent. In the interest of transparency, we are sharing these additional details now.
Always be aware of your surroundings and call 911 to report suspicious vehicles or individuals.
If you have any additional information, including an eyewitness account, video footage, or any evidence, please call 312.742.4410 or email [email protected].
The next Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meeting for beat 1711 is Wednesday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Mayfair Community Church, 5020 N. Pulaski Road.
Thank you,
Alderman Samantha Nugent
