Update on Shooting in Gold Coast

As many of you know, four individuals were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Gold Coast last Friday near the corner of N Dearborn St and W Division St. The shooting took place around 3:48 am, when perpetrators fired more than 25 rounds from a gray Acura sedan with no license plates. CBS Chicago reported Friday that the victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate this matter, and I will provide further updates as they are made available.

As I shared with residents in Gold Coast in a statement last week, I have made a formal request of Superintendent Snelling to issue a summary closure of Gold Coast Social nightclub, the establishment reports indicate that the targets were patronizing.

As an Alderman, I do not have the authority to revoke liquor licenses. However, I will ensure that any nexus between operators and violent activity is answered swiftly and decisively. As Gold Coast residents know, late hour nuisance activity is a stain on the neighborhood, and I have worked tirelessly within my authority to address the toxic behavior that stems from the operation of a few operators.

That request is still under consideration by the superintendent, and I will share further details as they come.

You may review a copy of my request of Superintendent Snelling here
Domestic Violence Task Force

Last Thursday, I joined my colleague Alderman Silvana Tabares at a press conference to discuss her resolution calling for a Chicago-Cook County task force to reduce violence against women. I am proud to have signed on as a co-sponsor of this legislation, a crucial step towards concerted, coordinated handling of violence against women in the Chicagoland area.

Ribbon Cutting for Bunda in Lincoln Park

The 2nd Ward welcomed another new business last week! Bunda, a group fitness studio, opened at 2051 N Clybourn Ave. I am pleased to see another new storefront occupied in the ward, and hope Bunda will be a welcome addition to Lincoln Park.
