| | Dear Neighbor,
Shooting UpdateYou may have noticed increased police presence on the 6500 block of N Sacramento Ave following the shooting earlier this week. Detectives are working this case intensely and have already made one arrest. Expect to see additional police in the area until the case is fully resolved.
Thank you to all the detectives and to the dedicated 24th District police officers who are working to keep our community safe.
Chicago Should Stand Up to HateI am sad to report that Kanye West is performing in Chicago this week. Kanye has a long and deeply offensive history of making antisemitic, pro-Nazi, homophobic, and racist statements. I am disappointed that the Chicago Park District is handing him a stage at Soldier Field, and that neither the Park District Superintendent nor the Mayor has publicly condemned his hateful rhetoric.
Cities and governments around the world have protested against Kanye performances in light of his bigoted actions. Chicago should have done the same. Our city leadership should have spoken out clearly against hate and stood with the communities that have been targeted by it.
Doing nothing normalizes Kanye’s message and sends the wrong signal at a time when Chicago is already seeing a troubling rise in antisemitism and other forms of hate. Our city’s diverse communities deserve better.
50th Ward Movie in the Park - September 1End the summer with style at the upcoming 50th Ward Movie in the Park! Join us for free snacks, entertainment, and the movie Zootopia 2 at Chippewa Park (6748 N. Sacramento) this Tuesday, September 1. |
|
|
| The movie begins at dusk, but the fun begins at 6:30 PM. We will be sponsoring a special family fair before the show. Come early for free airbrushing, balloon twisters, pizza, and snacks!
The Movie in the Park was originally scheduled for the beginning of August, but was rescheduled due to severe weather. Please hope for clear skies next week!
The fair is underwritten by Alderman Debra Silverstein, with the help of our sponsors: Senator Ram Villiavalam, State Representative Robyn Gabel, Commissioner Josina Morita, Tel Aviv Slices Pizza (3517 W. Devon), Rita's of West Ridge (5940 N. Lincoln), Dunkin’ (3132 W. Devon), and Jewel-Osco (2485 W. Howard).
The Movie in the Park is one of my favorite community events every year. We are always joined by hundreds of local children and families for a fantastic time. I hope to see you all there!
50th Ward Job Fair - Employer RegistrationAs I announced previously, the annual 50th Ward Job Fair will be back this year on Thursday, September 24 at the Northtown Library! I am hosting this event together with State Senator Ram Villivalam, State Representative Kevin Olickal, and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
We are still looking for more local, neighborhood businesses to participate. If you are an employer seeking qualified employees, visit 50thward.org/employers. Job seekers are also invited to pre-register here. |

Focus on the 50thIt was a pleasure to tour two wonderful Jewish community facilities in our neighborhood this week.
I visited Midwest Refuah Health Center, which provides an expanding range of healthcare services, including pediatrics, family medicine, behavioral health, dentistry, and diagnostic imaging. I am grateful to see them provide accessible, high-quality care right here in our community. |
|
| | I also toured the new Peterson Park Kollel (Kollel Zichron Eliyahu), which is already becoming a neighborhood anchor and has created a place for learning, connection, and community. |
|
|
| I am so glad to see all of our local diverse communities thriving, growing, and investing in the future.
Ice Cream Social & Outdoor Office HoursI had a wonderful time with my neighbors at the last Ice Cream Social and Outdoor Office Hours of the season at Rogers Park this week! Thank you to everyone who came out to share ice cream together and to discuss ways to improve our community. |
|
| | It has been a very busy summer in the 50th Ward, with lots of community events. My favorite part of the job is getting to connect with my neighbors, and it was wonderful to be able to meet with so many of you over the past few months!

| | Veterans Resource Day - September 2 |
|
|
| Calling all veterans! The 50th Ward is proudly partnering with the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County (VACCC) to offer a monthly Veterans Resources Day at the Ward Office. Join us on the first Wednesday of every month at 2949 W. Devon to meet individually with experts and get connected to resources tailored for veterans and their families. The next monthly event will be on Wednesday, September 2 from 11 AM to 3 PM.
The government has many programs available to help those who served. If you are a veteran, the family member of a veteran, or you know a veteran in need, please come to this Veterans Resources Day and get the help you deserve. A veterans service officer will be here to assist with enrollment for health care, disability & compensation, employment, financial assistance, and more.
Click here for more information. For any questions, please call the 50th Ward Office at (773) 262-1050. We are dedicated to honoring all who served! |

| | Rogers Park Township Property Tax Appeal |
|
| Are your property taxes too high? If you live in Rogers Park Township, you can now appeal your assessment and possibly lower them for the future.
The assessment of your home is one of the most important factors in determining how much you will pay in property taxes. The good news is that you can appeal your valuation and potentially lower your taxes.
Rogers Park Township property owners can appeal through the Cook County Board of Review through Tuesday, September 1. File an appeal at appeals.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
Rogers Park Township encompasses the area of the 50th Ward that is north of Devon Avenue. Successful appeals will be reflected on second installment property tax bills issued in the summer of 2027. |

| | 50th Ward Diaper Donation Drive |
|
|
| We are proudly partnering with Share Our Spare to host a diaper drive at the 50th Ward Office. The donation drive will incorporate National Diaper Need Awareness Week (September 14-20). A donation box is now available at the 50th Ward Office, 2949 W. Devon. Please help end diaper need in Chicago by donating diapers and pull-ups.
Diapers are not covered by government assistance, and roughly half of families struggle to afford them. Share Our Spare is on track to distribute more than 2 million diapers this year, but they need our help to ensure they have enough diapers to meet the needs of the children they serve. You can make sure parents do not have to choose between food and diapers for their children.
