Dear Neighbors,
I hope everyone had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day! It is always special to see the Chicago River turn bright green for one of the city’s most iconic traditions and a reminder of the deep Irish roots that are part of Chicago’s story and my own family history. I hope you had the chance to celebrate safely and enjoy the festivities across the city.
And to all of our Chicago Public School (CPS) students, families, and educators, happy Spring Break! I hope this next week brings some well deserved rest, fun, and time to recharge before the final stretch of the school year. |

Earlier this week, my office hosted our first Community Conversation meeting of the year at Truman College. These quarterly gatherings bring together neighbors, local organizations, and city departments to talk about safety across the ward, share resources, and collaborate on solutions that strengthen our community. I am grateful to everyone who came out to participate and share their perspectives.
A special thank you to our partners from Thresholds, The Illinois State Treasurer Office, The Office of the City Clerk, Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer, State Representative Ann Williams, The Office of Attorney General, The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, both the 19th and 20th District Councils, Community Partners for Peace (CP4), and the Chicago Police Department for joining us, sharing the work they are doing across the city, and taking the time to answer questions from neighbors. These conversations are an important part of how we continue building safer, more connected neighborhoods together. |

With the recent rain, some neighbors may have experienced standing water or localized flooding on their blocks. My team has been out with Streets and Sanitation working to unclog problem drains, including clearing debris from catch basins to help water flow more freely. It is important to note that street sweeping cannot begin until we have consistently warm temperatures, as the equipment requires certain conditions to operate safely and effectively. If you notice clogged drains or standing water, please report it to 311 so crews can respond. If a situation seems especially urgent or severe, do not hesitate to call or email our office at 773-878-4646 or [email protected] so we can help escalate the issue.
It is also helpful to remember that rainwater can take anywhere from 8 to 24 hours to fully drain after heavy rainfall, as many catch basins are designed to slow the flow of water to prevent overwhelming the city’s sewer system and mitigate basement flooding. Keeping our streets clear and our drains functioning is truly a neighborhood team effort, and we appreciate everyone doing their part to help keep our community safe and dry. |

At this week’s full City Council meeting, I had the honor of recognizing The People’s Music School’s 50th Anniversary. Through a formal resolution, we acknowledged five decades of providing free, high-quality music education to young people in our ward and across Chicago. It was a special moment to celebrate their incredible impact and commitment to making the arts accessible to children from all walks of life. Congratulations to The People’s Music School on 50 years of inspiring the next generation through music! |

Ward Night is always one of my favorite ways to connect with neighbors because it gives us the chance to sit down one on one, talk through questions, and dig into the solutions. Thank you to all the neighbors who signed up and came by to share ideas, concerns, and updates from around the ward. These conversations are always thoughtful, sometimes a little lively, and always a reminder of how engaged and passionate our community is. |
|
| | I hope you get a chance to enjoy some of the beautiful weather this weekend!
Yours In Service,
Alderwoman Angela Clay

Spring also means baseball season is back! As we prepare for the Cubs Home Opener on Thursday, March 26th, we want to remind neighbors near Wrigley Field about important traffic and parking changes.
Resident Neighbor Passes can be picked up directly from our office at 4544 N. Broadway, rather than Wrigley Field. If you live on Alta Vista, Sheffield, Kenmore, Seminary, Wilton, or Waveland, you are eligible for a pass.
For non-emergency concerns related to traffic or neighborhood conditions, residents can call the Cubs Hotline at 866-4-CPD-TOW (866-427-3869), which is staffed by CPD during game times.

This year, the Cubs will utilize the Weiss Hospital garage at 4650 N. Clarendon Ave. as a free remote parking location for night and weekend games, with shuttle service provided to and from Wrigley Field. This setup is required under the City’s ordinance and applies to all home games on weeknights and weekends, postseason games, and large events with expected attendance over 12,500, such as concerts.
Please note that it is not in operation during weekday day games. We have been advised that the remote parking option should not impact existing parking arrangements for neighbors, and no reserved spaces have been reassigned. Shuttle activity will be contained within the hospital driveway on Marine Drive, and buses will not be using residential street parking.
Additional staging has been coordinated off-site, including at the Jewel-Osco on Broadway, to help limit congestion in the surrounding area.
Please review the image to reference the other Cubs’ parking lots provided for attendees. |

| | | | It has come to our attention that large amounts of food are being dumped in various areas of the ward to feed pigeons. We want to remind neighbors that feeding pigeons is a violation of the City of Chicago ordinance.
As a reminder, dumping food in public spaces attracts rodents, creates sanitation issues, and negatively impacts the surrounding area. We ask all neighbors to help keep our ward clean and safe by refraining from feeding pigeons and reporting large food dumping when you see it.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy and welcoming for everyone.

| | Join us Tuesday, March 24th at 6 PM for a screening of Elizabeth Nichols' 2024 documentary, Flying Lessons.
Elizabeth Nichols’ Flying Lessons is a beautiful ode to a New York City Lower East Side artist as well as to the larger “dying breed” that once roamed the streets of Alphabet City, performing in its now extinct clubs. Importantly, it’s also a call to end rampant gentrification and a love story between director and character all rolled into one. When their Lower East Side building comes under siege by a predatory landlord, a young filmmaker and an aging punk artist forge an unlikely friendship. As the two women collaborate on a portrait of a creative life amidst NYC’s cultural crisis, they discover what it means to be neighbors. The film will be followed by a discussion led by ONE Northside and all proceeds will go towards supporting their work. |
