CPD 1st District Requests

Court Advocacy Volunteers

The 1st District Office of Community Policing is requesting volunteer court advocates to assist them. A court advocate is a community member who has interest in going to court to follow up on certain cases that occur in their police district. There is a one-hour training requirement, which can be done in person or online, to be a court advocate. The Office of Community Policing will host six Zoom meetings to train volunteers and discuss outcomes of cases, which will also be shared at the local CAPS meetings. An online training session is scheduled for February 6 at 5pm. Please reach out to the Office of Community Policing at [email protected] for the meeting information.

Any volunteers who receive training will be eligible for reimbursement for any parking fees they incur attending court sessions. If you have any additional questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact the email above.

Winter Parking Restrictions Reminder

With recent snowfall, we would like to remind all residents of the winter weather parking restrictions that run from December 1 - April 1, 3am - 7am daily. A posted 'No Parking” between 3am and 7am sign means that the winter overnight parking ban is in effect on that street whether snow is present or not. Violating vehicles could be ticketed or towed. An example of this signage is below.

Separately, the city also posts signage for designated “Snow Routes,” which is displayed below. At the curb lane where this signage is posted, parking is only prohibited when over 2” of snow is present. Visit the City of Chicago's winter snow parking restrictions page to learn more. You can also visit chicagoshovels.org for a live snowplow tracker and other winter weather information.
