Dear John,
The Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) will begin street sweeping on April 1st and run through the end of November or later, weather permitting. Starting Wednesday, the 32nd Ward ward street sweeper will begin to clear the debris and leaves that have accumulated during winter months on both residential and arterial streets. You can assist the trucks by collecting and bagging your yard leaves and landscaping debris and clearing catch basins or drains of debris.
Blowing leaves and landscaping onto City streets is illegal. Landscapers should be containing all debris from parkways and yards they are maintaining. Sweepers are not designed for heavy leaf collection and excessive landscaping or leaf debris usually results in clogging of sweeper gear and equipment failure, leading to delays in sweeping.
Residents are reminded to check for the bright orange signs announcing temporary parking restrictions. It is your responsibility to be aware of street sweeping. You can pick up a copy of the schedule from our office or just click here to print one! Residents can also track the City’s street sweeping fleet in real time through the Sweeper Tracker online tool. Please share with your neighbors. The first section the sweeper will hit is Section 6 in Hamlin Park.
Thank you and have a great week!
Alderman Scott Waguespack
