Rain Barrels

Did you know that the City of Chicago provides rain barrels for just $22.30 (or $11.15 for those 65+). You can order one directly from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD). Rain barrels capture rain water for later use and can help prevent flooding and sewer overflows. We have a very limited supply of free rain barrels to give to neighbors for whom the cost is a burden.

Chicago Heat Ordinance Reminder

The Chicago Heat Ordinance mandates that landlords supply heat to any unit in which residents do not have individual control of the thermostat during cold weather months. From September 15 - June 1, the temperature inside a rental residence is required to be at least 68 degrees from 8:30am - 10:30pm and at least 66 degrees from 10:30pm - 8:30am. Landlords face fines of up to $1000 per day, per violation, for each day they do not supply adequate heat. If you are a renter and your landlord is not providing adequate heat, you may file a No Heat Complaint through 311. CONSTRUCTION

bryn mawr catalpa broadway winthrop green alley project area map

Green Alley Construction: Bryn Mawr - Catalpa - Broadway - Winthrop

We are pleased to announce the start of construction on a green alley bounded by Bryn Mawr - Catalpa - Broadway - Winthrop. Green alleys are alleys reconstructed to improve stormwater drainage, reduce heat, and conserve energy using techniques like permeable pavers, underground water detention, and recycled materials. The anticipated start date is October 19.

Once started, construction is expected to take approximately six (6) weeks, weather permitting. Please note:
  • Residential garbage will be curbside and we ask that all homeowners and business owners relocate cans to the front or side of the property.
  • There will be no access to the alley for approximately six (6) weeks depending on weather conditions.
  • Barricades will block all entrances to the alley.
  • Homeowners and business owners are advised to relocate cars and seek alternative parking.
This project will be managed by the Public Building Commission of Chicago. For any questions, please contact the ward office at [email protected] or 773-784-5277.
