STORM CLEANUP UPDATE FROM ALDERMAN GARDINER

A mural dedicated to the memory of three Chicago Police Officers, Luis Huesca,

Andres Vasquez Lasso, and Enrique Martinez, was recently defaced with graffiti.

Instead of focusing on the cowardly act of an unknown individual, the 45th Ward will highlight the reasons why our city honors the memories of these individuals.

Luis Huesca, a 30-year-old veteran of six years with CPD, embodied the values of bravery, loyalty, and integrity. He was a son, brother, and proud uncle.

Andres Vasquez Lasso, a 32-year-old four-year member of CPD, loved Chicago and took pride in serving and protecting the city's residents.

A Colombian immigrant, he came to the United States at 18 and always aspired to become a police officer.

Enrique Martinez, a 26-year-old officer with two years of service, followed in his brother's footsteps and became a Chicago Police Officer. He was a son, brother, and was about to marry his fiancée before his line of duty death. His generous spirit will forever be remembered by family and friends, as well as his legacy of service and sacrifice.

May God bless the souls of these three warriors, and may their families be reassured of the love and support our city has for each of them.

The City of Chicago's Office of Emergency Management & Communications is reviewing calls for service into 3-1-1 from recent storms that occurred on June 10 and June 11. Residents contacting 3-1-1 to report damage will be receiving or have received a text message to voluntarily complete a Residential Self-Assessment regarding storm damage. This is not a scam or a phishing attempt.

This supplemental information will help determine whether the City, along with our partners at Cook County and the State can pursue any options for additional assistance for residents.

Juneteenth Office Closure

In observance of Juneteenth, our office will be closed on Friday, June 19th. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22nd.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

For more than 40 years, Happy Foods has been a valued part of the Edgebrook community, serving generations of neighbors with quality groceries and friendly service. In 2024, the store entered a new chapter under owner Arthur Paris, who has embraced the store's neighborhood roots while introducing thoughtful improvements.

Improvements include an enhanced meat department with in-house sausage production, a refreshed produce section, and an expanded selection of fresh grocery items, with a continued focus on sourcing meats directly from farmers. Customers can also enjoy a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with freshly baked cookies and other favorites.

While the store features a refreshed look and expanded offerings, it continues to provide the welcoming, personal service that has long made it a neighborhood favorite.
