We schedule Ward Night visits by appointment to ensure ample time for residents to discuss community concerns and opportunities with the alderman. Call for Artists: Request for Qualifications- 35th Ward Mural Projects
In 2025, 35th Ward residents voted to dedicate funding through the 35th Ward Participatory Budgeting Program for Public Art and Beautification of Public Spaces. Two winning project proposals were the installation of murals on viaducts at 3401 N Kimball and 3040 N Sacramento. The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), in partnership with the 35th Ward Office, invites professional artists, artist teams, and arts organizations based in Chicago to submit qualifications. Community Development Grants OPEN
The City of Chicago is taking applications for Community Development Grants (CDG) for small and medium grants to support a variety of eligible, business-related investments that create and maintain jobs and quality-of-life improvements for local residents. Irving Park Department of Water Management Project 7578 Updates
This week, the Department of Water Management completed pressure testing and the chlorination of the new water main on N St Louis avenue between N Elston and W Waveland avenue. These tests assure water pressure and quality is to healthy standards. The Department of Water Management also continued the sewer main installation heading east on W Waveland avenue between N St Louis avenue and N Bernard. In the coming week, contractors will begin conducting lead service line replacements on N St Louis Avenue. Residents will be notified directly by the Water Department or their contractor when this work is scheduled.
Sewer/Water Schedule - July 20th, 2026 - July 24th, 2026
DWM will continue the installation of the new sewer main Eastward on W. Waveland Ave between N. St. Louis Ave and N. Kimball Ave. A new sewer manhole will also be installed at the Waveland and Bernard intersection.
Please Note: A test shut down on the watermain on N. Bernard St between N. Elson Ave and W. Addison St is scheduled to be completed on Monday, July 20th. There will be a brief interruption in water service to the addresses within the limits above; the water service interruption will be for less than 1HR – this is to verify the existing water valves are fully operational to complete the cut and cap – The crews have notified residents of the water service interruption.
Additionally: DWM is planning to complete the cut and cap of existing water main in the intersection of W. Waveland Ave and N. Bernard St to accommodate sewer installation; the interruption of water service is anticipated to be for a couple of hours – This cut and cap is scheduled to be completed on 7/21/26 (time of day is TBD) – Crews are to notify residents of the water service interruption on Monday (7/21/26).
During working hours, no residential parking/through traffic will be allowed on N. St. Louis Ave between N. Elston Ave and W. Addison St or on W. Waveland Ave between N. Drake Ave and N. Bernard St. No Parking signs have been posted to indicate restrictions while work is ongoing. For the public’s safety, the intersection of N. St. Louis Ave and W. Waveland Ave will remain closed until all sewer/watermain work in the intersection has been completed. Per previous correspondence, As sewer installation progresses eastward on W. Waveland Ave, the intersection of N. Bernard St and W. Waveland Ave will need to be closed to allow crews to safely install the new sewer main.
3600 N Sacramento Upcoming Department of Water Management Work
Last week, the contractors started the water main installation beginning at W Waveland avenue, working south on Sacramento towards W Addison. This week they reached Addison and Sacramento and are working to install the water main at this intersection. Next week, the contractor plans to work on the catch basins and private drains. Weather and conditions permitting, pressure testing and chlorination is scheduled towards the end of next week to ensure the safety and quality of pressure to the water.
Contractor plans to complete the watermain pipe installation across the intersection of N Sacramento and W Addison St.
Any flushing of the watermain scheduled for next week will be done at the intersection of W. Waveland and N. Sacramento.
With the road closure in effect, local traffic will have limited access. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained for the duration of the closure.
Fullerton Avenue Arterial Resurfacing
The contractor continues work on the Fullerton Arterial Resurfacing Project. Next week, the contractor intends to focus on pouring concrete on the north side of Fullerton, from Lockwood to Karlov. In stage 2, the contractor intends to work on concrete removal on the south side of the street from Karlov to Central Park. Much of the areas that will be worked on have already been sawcut, so the contractor will remove the concrete in that area and frame and pour the new concrete. Please note that the entire mainline sidewalk will not be removed, only selected portions of the sidewalk, indicated through no parking signs, will be removed and replaced.
Utility crews are on site in stage 1 (Lockwood to Karlov) to level their utility structures prior to final resurfacing of Fullerton in that stage.
Upcoming Paseo Prairie Garden Work Days
The Friends of Paseo Prairie Garden will be hosting upcoming volunteer work days. Each work day will be held from 10am-11:30am at Paseo Prairie Community Garden, located at 2614 N Kedzie, and volunteers can assist with weeding, trash pickup, watering and planting.

West Chicago Township Property Assessment Appeals NOW OPEN
Residents of the 35th ward that reside within the West Chicago township may a file an appeal of their assessment until August 21st. Check your township here. If you think the estimated market value of your home is incorrect, you should file an appeal if you have not done so recently. This is the last year for appeals until the next reassessment year for Chicago, meaning if people have appealed already once since 2024, there is no need to reappeal this year. Our joint office with Commissioner Jessica Vazquez, located at 2934 N Milwaukee, Unit C, is taking appointments for appeals, please call (312) 603-6386 to schedule an appointment.
School Supplies Drive until August 7
Our office is collecting school supplies in partnership with the offices of State Representative Will Guzzardi (IL-39) and State Senator Graciela Guzman (IL-20) until Friday, August 7. Donations of new school supplies such as backpacks, pencils, pens, highlighters, notebook paper, folders, binders, spiral and composition notebooks, tissue packs, hand sanitizer, erasers, pencil cases, pencil sharpeners, crayons, and markers are greatly appreciated.

Chicago Minimum Wage Updates
Effective July 1, 2026, the Chicago minimum wage for employers with four or more employees will increase to $17.05 per hour, and the tipped worker minimum wage will increase to $12.96 per hour.
