We also want to provide an update on ongoing services and improvements at 1800 S. Blue Island Ave., Plaza Tenochtitlan. Our office has been coordinating with City departments to address sanitation, outreach, and infrastructure needs at the plaza.

Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) continues to provide regular maintenance at the site. The Ward Superintendent visits the location daily to address small amounts of garbage, with larger cleanups conducted as needed. Rodent baiting is also regularly occurring at the location. Plaza Tenochtitlan is on DSS's list for weekly departmental cleanups, as well as monthly joint cleanups the Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS).

DFSS outreach teams typically visit the site once a week. Community partners, including Street Samaritans and The Night Ministry, also visit the site frequently to provide outreach and support services.

Regarding infrastructure improvements, CDOT has developed a design outlining the limits of short-term repairs that will be completed through the 25th Ward's menu program. In addition, CDOT is working with the 25th Ward on a future Plaza Tenochtitlan project through its Streetscapes team, which will focus on longer-term improvements beyond the scope of the menu program.

Looking ahead to September, we will also be hosting Board of Review appeal workshops during Ward Nights at the 25th Ward Office from 3:00 PM–6:00 PM on September 1, September 15, and September 29. These workshops will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the Board of Review appeal process and receive assistance with preparing their appeals.

As a reminder, Chicago Public Schools will begin the 2026–2027 school year on Monday, August 24, for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Preschool students are scheduled to return on Tuesday, August 25. We wish all students, families, teachers, and school staff a safe, successful, and exciting start to the new school year.

Warm regards,
Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez

Saludos cordiales,
Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez
