Rain Delay: Today’s Remote Office Hours Cancelled

Relevance: 1/10

Summary

Alderman Timmy Knudsen (43rd Ward) cancelled today’s remote office hours at the Lincoln Park Farmers Market due to rain, and announced they will be rescheduled for Saturday, August 8, from 9–11 a.m. The newsletter also urges residents to support a “Letter for a Safer Lincoln Avenue” seeking to revoke The Dime’s liquor-related licenses for public safety reasons, and includes citywide guidance on storm flooding/combined sewer overflow prevention. Other major updates: the newsletter references severe storms and flooding, shares MWRD overflow action guidance to reduce water use during/after storms, and lists regular 43rd Ward office hours and contact information.

Dear Neighbors,

Unfortunately, the weather isn't cooperating this morning, so we need to cancel our remote office hours that were meant to be held at the Lincoln Park Farmers Market today from 9-11am. The Market itself will still be open, with vendors in more rain-friendly setups.

As a reminder, we were there to collect signatures for our Letter for a Safer Lincoln Avenue, urging the Commissioner of the Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection and the Liquor Commissioner to revoke The Dime's liquor license and Public Place of Amusement license due to its ongoing risk to public safety. Click here to read the full letter.

We plan to reschedule these remote office hours to next Saturday, August 8th, at the Lincoln Park Farmers Market from 9-11am. Until then, you're welcome to sign the letter in person during our office's regular business hours. You can also print a signature form here and collect physical signatures from your neighbors to deliver to our office.

And remember — there's no better way to stay dry this weekend than shopping and eating local along one of our great 43rd Ward business corridors!

Sincerely,

Alderperson Timmy Knudsen

This week brought another round of severe storms and flooding to Chicago. When storms arrive faster than water can be treated, the combined sewer system can become overwhelmed. As of early Tuesday, the Deep Tunnel system was still holding nearly 6 billion gallons of stormwater, and the McCook Reservoir was about 92% full. If you notice standing water in the street for 1-2 days after storms, that's often the system working as designed: water held on roadways is water kept out of homes and businesses. A sincere thank you to the city employees, first responders, utility crews, and public works staff working around the clock to keep Chicago safe.

MWRD Overflow Action Alert

With heavy rain expected in the Chicago area today, and throughout the weekend, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) encourages area residents and business owners to reduce water use during and after the storm to help prevent flooding and protect water quality: delay showers and baths, flush less frequently, and wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine.
