We are keeping the good times rolling in the 21st Ward. Even when the rain puts a damper on our week, our community always finds a way to show up for one another. Thank you to all of the event organizers, volunteers and neighbors who made your events happen despite the weather.
Whether you're hosting a reunion, back-to-school event, block club gathering or church celebration, I am always grateful for the opportunity to be there with you. My office is here to answer your questions, address your concerns and connect you with the resources you need. Please continue to call our office, join us for Constituent Night or attend one of our Town Halls.
Our team is committed to serving you every day and working together to keep the 21st Ward the best ward in the City of Chicago.
Serving our community also means keeping you informed about issues that impact your health and quality of life. The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) has identified portions of the 21st Ward for targeted mosquito spraying, tentatively scheduled for the evening of Thursday, August 6, to help reduce mosquito activity and protect public health. If you live within the designated area, please take a moment to review the map below for the planned spray zone.
| As we look ahead to this weekend, I hope you'll join us for the rescheduled Morgan Park Roots Festival on Saturday, August 8, from 12 to 7 p.m. at Ada Park. Celebrate the festival's 50th Anniversary with live music, family activities, community resources and a day of fellowship right here in the 21st Ward. | Before that, don't miss the 96th Annual Bud Billiken Parade, beginning at 10 a.m. from 39th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Washington Park. It's one of Chicago's most cherished traditions celebrating our youth, our culture and the start of a new school year. I hope to see you at both events! | | |

Events like these strengthen the relationships that keep our community connected, and I'm grateful to everyone who helped make the day a success.

Christian Community Health Center Annual Health and Fun Fair
One of the many strengths of the 21st Ward is the organizations that continue to invest in the health and well-being of our families. It was a pleasure to join Christian Community Health Center for their Annual Health & Fun Fair, where neighbors enjoyed a day filled with free health screenings, vaccinations, family activities, food, games and fun. Thank you to Christian Community Health Center for your continued commitment to making quality healthcare accessible while creating opportunities for our community to come together. Partnerships like these help build a healthier, stronger 21st Ward.

First Black Families of Mount Vernon
It wad a privilege to celebrate the First Black Families of Mount Vernon at their annual cookout. A tradition that honors those who broke barriers by making this community home in the 1960s and 1970s. Seeing multiple generations reunite, share stories, laugh together and welcome old neighbors back reminds us that a neighborhood isn't defined by streets or buildings—it's defined by the people who leave a lasting legacy. Thank you to everyone who continues to preserve this history and pass it on to the next generation.

Block Club Season Across the 21st Ward
I was proud to join residents at the block parties on the 9000 block of South Loomis 107th and 108th Streets on Lowe, and 116th Street and Throop. It was wonderful to see neighbors come together to enjoy great food, music, and summer fun while strengthening the bonds that make our communities so special. Thank you to each block club for keeping these traditions alive and helping make the 21st Ward a stronger, more connected place to call home.

SplitSec.AI Community Safety Pilot
If you missed our July 25th Town Hall, there is still time to participate in the 21st Ward’s SplitSecAI pilot program.
Residents can sign up for a free two-month trial of the gunshot-detection app, which helps identify possible gunfire and share safety alerts with trusted contacts.

Violence Reduction Governance Ordinance Advances to Committee
Every Chicagoan deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood. That is why I was proud to sponsor the Violence Reduction Governance Ordinance in partnership with Live Free Illinois, alongside co-sponsor Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor, to establish a permanent Department of Gun Violence Reduction in the City of Chicago. The ordinance is currently before the Committee on Budget and Government Operations.
Gun violence is not just a public safety issue—it is a public health crisis that impacts families, young people, businesses, and entire communities. While law enforcement plays a critical role, we must also invest in prevention, intervention, victim services, and the community-based organizations doing this work every day. Creating a permanent department dedicated to reducing gun violence ensures this work remains a priority, regardless of who holds office.
I'm grateful to Live Free Illinois and our community partners for their leadership and advocacy. Together, we can move beyond short-term responses and build a safer, stronger Chicago through sustained investment, accountability, and collaboration.
This is how we create lasting change.
Better Together!

Stay Engaged with the 21st Ward
Every month, our Town Halls bring City departments, community organizations, and residents together in one place.
Whether we’re discussing housing, public safety, economic development, or infrastructure, our goal remains the same: put the right information, the right people, and the right resources directly in front of our residents.
Your participation helps shape the future of our community, and I encourage you to stay engaged throughout the year.
