Dear Chicago,
The start of street sweeping confirms it: spring has finally arrived! I am very excited to welcome our newest sign hangers: Christian and Edgar. They have worked with our Ward Superintendent Michael Payne this winter through an apprenticeship program with Local 1001. Please give them both a warm welcome when you see them in your community posting and removing street sweeping signs throughout our historic communities.
Additionally, we are looking for block clubs, organizations and residents that wish to participate in the 2026 Clean & Green. Working with our partners at the Department of Streets & Sanitation (DSS), we will provide the tools & garbage bags you need to help spruce up your neighborhood.
This is also a great way to evaluate your needs at home. Does the tree in the parkway need to be trimmed? Are there tree branches encroaching on the wires in the alley? Is your garbage cart secure, or does it have holes, cracks, or a broken lid?
My office will continue to proactive address many of the needs of my residents. We are aggressively working with the Department of Revenue to address abandoned vehicles. We are working with the Department of Transportation to ensure all street and alley lights are functioning properly as well as potholes filled. We continue to work with the DSS on aggressive rodent abatement, vacant lot cleaning, and enforcement of dumpster requirements are large multi-unit buildings.
While my team and I catch many of these service needs, we cannot catch them all. I need your help in improving the quality of life throughout Brighton Park, West Englewood, Canaryville, Gage Park, Chicago Lawn and Back of the Yards. To report any issue on your block, please call our directly at 773-823-1539.
