A Message from Alderman Sigcho-Lopez – September 12th, 2025
On behalf of the 25th Ward Office, I want to extend my warmest greetings to you as we continue into September, a month filled with celebration, movement, and community.
Later today, Friday, September 12, we are proud to host a Storytime and Mexican Flag Ceremony at 4:00 PM at the Rudy Lozano Library, in collaboration with Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil from the Consulate General of Mexico. This event offers an opportunity for families to come together in recognition of our shared culture, history, and pride.
On Sunday, September 14, we invite you to join the El Grito 5K at 9:00 AM at Manuel Perez Jr. Plaza, followed by the 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade at 12:00 PM, beginning at 26th & Albany. To wrap up celebrations, El Grito Pilsen will kick off on Monday, Sept. 15th at 5:00 PM at St. Paul Church (2127 W 22nd Pl). These traditions highlight the resilience, culture, and unity that make Pilsen, Little Village, and communities across our ward so vibrant.
While we gather in celebration, it is also important to remain aware of challenges affecting our community. We have received reports of increased ICE activity in Chicago in recent days. We strongly encourage residents to review Know Your Rights information and to share it with family, neighbors, and friends:
- You have the right to remain silent.
- You do not have to open the door without a warrant signed by a judge.
- You have the right to speak to a lawyer before answering any questions.
Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you or someone you know needs to be connected with legal resources or immigrant rights organizations.

De parte de la Oficina del Distrito 25, quiero extenderles un cálido saludo mientras seguimos en septiembre, un mes lleno de celebración, movimiento y comunidad.
Hoy, viernes 12 de septiembre, tendremos con orgullo un Cuentacuentos y Ceremonia de la Bandera Mexicana a las 4:00 PM en la Biblioteca Rudy Lozano, en colaboración con la Embajadora Reyna Torres Mendivil del Consulado General de México. Este evento es una oportunidad para que las familias se reúnan en reconocimiento a nuestra cultura, historia y orgullo compartidos.
El domingo 14 de septiembre les invitamos a participar en la Carrera El Grito 5K a las 9:00 AM en la Plaza Manuel Pérez Jr., seguida del Desfile de la Independencia Mexicana en la Calle 26 a las 12:00 PM, comenzando en la 26th y Albany. Para cerrar las celebraciones, El Grito Pilsen comenzará el lunes 15 de septiembre a las 5:00 PM en la Iglesia St. Paul (2127 W 22nd Pl). Estas tradiciones resaltan la resiliencia, cultura y unidad que hacen de Pilsen, La Villita y nuestras comunidades en todo el distrito lugares tan vibrantes.
Mientras celebramos, también es importante mantenernos atentos a los desafíos que enfrenta nuestra comunidad. Hemos recibido reportes recientes de un aumento en la actividad de ICE en Chicago. Recomendamos encarecidamente que los residentes revisen y compartan la información sobre Conozca Sus Derechos con familiares, vecinos y amistades:
- Tiene derecho a permanecer en silencio.
- No está obligado a abrir la puerta sin una orden firmada por un juez.
- Tiene derecho a hablar con un abogado antes de contestar cualquier pregunta.
Por favor no dude en comunicarse con nuestra oficina si usted o alguien que conoce necesita conexión con recursos legales u organizaciones de defensa de derechos de inmigrantes.
