Thriving 21 Weekly Bulletin

July 15, 2026

Hi 21st Ward Family,

Every week, our office works to move the 21st Ward forward.

Sometimes that work looks like breaking ground on a new development. Sometimes it's helping a senior resolve a city service issue. Sometimes it's bringing neighbors together at a block party, supporting families during difficult moments, or creating opportunities for children to simply enjoy being kids.

Progress doesn't happen through one big announcement. It happens through thousands of small actions that, over time, transform a neighborhood.

This week's newsletter reflects that work. You'll find updates on development projects moving across the finish line, infrastructure improvements underway, upcoming community events, public safety information, and resources available to residents.

Thank you for staying engaged and for continuing to invest in our community. Together, we're proving that when neighbors, businesses, community organizations, and government work together, great things happen.

Together, we're building a thriving 21st Ward.

— Alderman Ronnie L. Mosley

Completed street resurfacing:

In the Community

Sweet Treats to Beat the Heat

Our office partnered with the Angel of God Resource Center and the Mayor's Office of Community Safety to host Sweet Treats to Beat the Heat, bringing residents together for a day of connection, resources, and relief during the summer heat.

When organizations, community leaders, and residents come together, we continue building the strong connections that help create a thriving 21st Ward.

Death of a Dreamer Butterfly Walk

On July 3rd, I joined residents, families, and advocates at the Death of a Dreamer Butterfly Walk at Fernwood Park (10747 S. Normal) to honor lives lost and support mothers and families navigating grief. This powerful gathering served as a reminder that healing is a community effort. Through reflection, remembrance, and hope, participants came together to transform pain into purpose while continuing the work of creating safer, stronger communities for future generations.

Events like these demonstrate the resilience that exists throughout the 21st Ward and the importance of standing together in support of one another.

Celebrating Community Through Block Clubs

Throughout the summer, I have had the opportunity to join residents at several neighborhood gatherings, including the 104th Street Block Club Annual Celebration, the 116th & Justine Block Party, and most recently, the 94th & Bishop Block Party.

These events reflect the strong community spirit that continues to make the 21st Ward a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Block clubs play an important role in bringing neighbors together, strengthening relationships, and creating safer, more connected communities.

Thank you to the organizers, block club leaders, and residents who continue investing in their neighborhoods and creating spaces where families can gather, connect, and build lasting relationships. Your dedication helps move our community forward and strengthens the foundation of a Thriving 21.

Movies in the Park at Oakdale

There's nothing quite like a summer evening spent with neighbors. Our office was proud to support Oakdale Park's Movies in the Park event, where families gathered to enjoy a screening of Drumline along with popcorn, hot dogs, snow cones, and refreshments.

Events like these create opportunities for residents to connect, enjoy our local parks, and strengthen the sense of community that makes the 21st Ward special.

Public Safety Corner

Honda Air Bag Theft Alert

The Chicago Police Department continues reporting air bag thefts involving Honda vehicles.

Protect your vehicle by:

  • Using a steering wheel lock
  • Parking in well-lit areas
  • Reporting suspicious activity immediately

Small preventative steps can make a significant difference.

Fraudulent text messages claiming to come from the Illinois Secretary of State continue circulating.

Remember:

  • Never click suspicious links.
  • Never send payment through unsolicited texts.
  • Verify information only through official state websites.

When in doubt, delete the message.
