As another school year comes to a close, we celebrate the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of students across the 21st Ward. From kindergarten graduations and eighth-grade promotions to high school commencements and college milestones, this season marks the beginning of new opportunities and exciting futures.
Last week, I was honored to join students, families, and educators in celebrating the graduating seniors of both Jones College Prep and Hansberry College Prep. From Jones College Prep's annual Black Grad Night, hosted by the Black Student Union, to Hansberry's commencement ceremony, these events recognized the hard work, perseverance, leadership, and achievements of the Class of 2026.
As these graduates prepare to begin the next chapter of their journeys, we congratulate them on this important milestone and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026!
| | At the 21st Ward Shredding and E-Waste Recycling Event, residents turned out in large numbers, taking advantage of free services that helped protect personal information, reduce household clutter, and promote environmental responsibility. The overwhelming participation demonstrated our community's commitment to keeping our neighborhoods clean and connected. | | | Photo Credit: Lanette Warbington | | We concluded the day with Vehicle Safety Day, where residents lined up to receive free steering wheel locks and catalytic converter marking services through a partnership with Jiffy Lube and the Chicago Police Department. The strong turnout reinforced the importance of proactive crime prevention and what can be achieved when community partners come together to support public safety. | | | Photo Credit: Lanette Warbington | | To start the week, I was honored to receive a Token of Appreciation Award at the Public Safety Community Fair in recognition of our collective efforts to support public safety initiatives throughout the community. This recognition belongs to the residents, community organizations, law enforcement partners, and stakeholders who work every day to make the 21st Ward a safer place for all. | | As we continue working to strengthen our neighborhoods, I also encourage residents to explore the City of Chicago's HomeGrown Purchase Assistance Grant Program. This initiative provides eligible homebuyers with financial assistance for down payments and closing costs, helping more families achieve the dream of homeownership. Investing in homeownership is an investment in stronger blocks, stronger communities, and a stronger future for the 21st Ward. For more information click here. Applications open Monday, June 8th! | | These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities, delivering resources, and ensuring every resident has the tools they need to thrive. Together, we will continue building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous 21st Ward. | | |
Thank you for staying engaged and connected.
Building Community. Thriving Together.
