We've got 32 days

Relevance: 1/10

Summary

Alderwoman Maria Hadden’s newsletter focuses on midterm election outreach rather than local legislative items: it notes early voting timelines in Chicago and the vote-by-mail application deadline, and asks 49th Ward residents to register, vote, and volunteer to increase turnout. Other major announcements include endorsements for her re-election slate, an “ONE People’s Campaign” endorsement, and calls for volunteers to help with petitioning, postcard writing, and hosting house parties.

News You Can Use

The Midterm Election Day is 32 days away.

Our nation has been in turmoil since Trump reclaimed office almost two years ago. Atrocious affronts to freedoms, laws, and the people of the United States by the Trump and the far-right have been exhausting. As we approach elections next month, their anti-democratic efforts to restrict and forbid voting by mail are an outright assault on one of the pillars of our democracy.

With all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats up for election, we have a chance to help gain more seats for candidates who will bring some balance back to the people's house.

To take back the House, Democrats need a net gain of three seats, a task that has been complicated by heavy-handed Republican congressional map redistricting that throws proportionality out the window completely.

Democrats need a net gain of four seats to win control of the Senate. And to reach a majority, they must win in multiple states that Trump won in 2024
General Election House and Senate seats
We need to take advantage of these next couple weeks as voters make our way to the ballot boxes. There are key IL seats in the Senate and Congress on our ballot in November, including the Governor's seat. As I support my endorsed candidates, we need to also do the work in our ward to get out the vote.

Increasing voter registration and turnout numbers for this election is going to be important in defending election results and our rights.

Do you want to help drive turnout in our ward? Sign up to work your precinct! If you're interested in helping, please fill out this contact form. I am also looking for volunteers to host house parties with, help me write post cards to supporters, and door-knock in the neighborhood.

There will be more communications in the days to come with election resources, voting information, and canvassing opportunities as we count down the days to November 3.
Onward,
Alderwoman Maria Hadden
49th Ward, Chicago
