June News in the 36th Ward! ✨

Relevance: 2/10

Summary

The 36th Ward’s June newsletter announces extended summer office hours (10 a.m.–7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and highlights a series of community events, including a Youth Summer Job Fair on June 6, a Women Veterans celebration on June 11, a Community Cleanup on June 18, and a block‑party on June 1. It also reports two key policy updates: the city’s new “Plow the Sidewalks” pilot program for free snow removal in four neighborhoods and the introduction of a Data Residency ordinance that will repurpose vacant city land for data‑center infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to apply for the upcoming ChiBlockBuilder lot‑purchase program, register for block‑party permits, and take advantage of the expanded services and resources offered by the ward office.”}

POLICY UPDATES FROM ALDERMAN VILLEGAS

Plow the Sidewalks Pilot Program

On Friday May 31, the City of Chicago announced a pilot program next year to provide city-run snow-clearing services in four areas across the city.

Alderman Villegas and the 36th Ward team have championed this issue for over a year, and we are glad to see the pilot program come together. Plowing sidewalks will make our city more accessible, prosperous, and equitable for all!

Through this program, we can address the impact of heavy snow, which prevents our senior citizens & Chicagoans living with disabilities from participating in our local economy.

Data Residency Ordinance - Introduced by Alderman Villegas

Data Residency is a real estate deal. Take vacant properties and land, utilize them for data center infrastructure therefore bringing it back onto the tax row and benefitting residents. Thank you, WVON 1690AM - The Talk of Chicago and Rufus Williams for having me on this morning to discuss this important ordinance.

KEEPING OUR WARD CLEAN
🚨 Stop by the 36th Ward Office to get a "Pick Up After Your Pet" Sign! With the warm weather starting up again, it's important to remind our neighbors to clean up after their pets. Let's keep our streets clean together! 🐕‍🦺

➡️ Residents, please REMOVE any and all materials that you are using in the street to save yourself a parking spot. If things are seen on the parkway, they will be moved out of the street. If they are placed there again, the Chicago Department of Streets & Sanitation will remove these materials.

🗑♻️ As always, please REPORT any excess trash you see on the streets. Put in a request to 311.chicago.gov & email a picture to [email protected]. Be sure to include the address and a description of the issue in the email. You can also call our office at 312-744-4324.

PROMOTING COMMUNITY SAFETY
