Dear Chicago,
This evening, August 4th, Commander Patrick Darling and the 22nd District invite all 19th Ward families to their annual National Night Out at Beverly Park (2460 W. 102nd St.), 5:00-8:00pm. The event will include food, fun, games, and more. Most importantly, come out and meet your local police officers and enjoy a fun night out with friends and neighbors. Please see the flyer below for details.
National Night Out was introduced in 1984 as a community-building event that focuses on public safety, involving police and the community. It is traditionally held on the first Tuesday night in August.
Other events this week include:
Honorary Martin McGarry Way Street Dedication
Martin McGarry, a south side legend and native of County Mayo, Ireland, passed away on January 24, 2018. Marty and Kathy McGarry raised their family in the Beverly community on the 10200 block of S. Hoyne Ave. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father, and for his distinguished career in boxing as a fighter, coach and mentor. Martin, a member of Pipefitters Local 597, ran McGarry's Boxing Club out of his home in Beverly, where he trained world champions and countless youths who benefited from his encouragement and coaching over the years. He was a former Golden Gloves champion, state champion, and Catholic Youth Organization champion in boxing. Martin was a leader in the community, member of St. Barnabas Catholic Parish, and a friend to thousands on the south side. The street dedication will take place on Thursday, August 6th at 6:00 pm at the intersection of 102nd Street & Hoyne Avenue. All are welcome to come and honor the memory of this wonderful man.
