| Dear 33rd Ward Community, |
| It is back to school weekend! Few things are as joyful and energizing as the back-to-school events that fill the city with youth and community spirit. It was an honor to join Israel's Gifts of Hope this past Saturday for their 9th Annual Back to School Giveaway, where they handed out free backpacks full of school supplies to neighborhood youth.
I was proud to help alongside State Senator Graciela Guzmán, Pastor Tom from Christ Lutheran Church, the Mayor's Office of Community Safety (who brought the bouncy house), and the Chicago Department of Public Health (who offered free blood pressure tests and other health resources). Bellona's Pizza even joined in, feeding the community with pizza for everyone. Israel's Gifts of Hope is a shining example of how community comes together through unity, solidarity, and love, to support families who have survived gun violence. That's how we build safety: together, and by making sure everyone's needs are met. That spirit carried into today, when our own office organized a backpack giveaway and block party of our own, alongside State Senator Guzman's office, the Mayor's Office, the office of Police District Councilor Beth Rochford, and the Latino Union of Chicago, and Rincon Family Services. Thank you to the Alliance of Service Organizations for providing food, and to Yas Fresh Market for donating snacks. It may sound cliché, but the youth truly are our future. Days like these are a reminder of why we do this work to build new systems of care while reinforcing the existing ones, like our public schools. Speaking of the work ahead, there's a lot happening this upcoming week! |
| | The Mayor’s Office is hosting three community meetings across the city to share information through a formal presentation and then gather feedback on proactive rental inspections (PRI). We hope you'll join one of them and help shape the future of our city, as we follow the lead of so many other communities around the country that have implemented PRI to create healthier homes: for us and for generations to come. We hope to see you at one of the meetings below: |
| Finally, I’d like to end by giving tremendous thanks to our incredible team of summer interns. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Sabrina, Melissa, Shakila, and Alfredo. Whether they were fielding office calls, canvassing neighbors, joining me at a parade, or visiting City Hall, they were such a pleasure. We were lucky to have this crew of committed young people and wish them tremendous success in all their future endevours.

| Thank you for doing this work with me. Please take a moment this week to help out a neighbor in need. You can always contact my office if you have any questions. We are here to help.
In solidarity, Rossana Rodríguez Sánchez 33rd Ward Alderperson |

For updates, please check in on our website. |

Please know that alley construction is scheduled to begin July 29, 2026. No alley access will be granted after July 29, 2026, please make accommodations to relocate your cars out of the garages.
