Dear Neighbor,

The 39th Ward is at its best in the summertime. Whether it's neighbors gathering for block parties, community events or simply enjoying our parks and local businesses, this season is a wonderful reminder of what makes our neighborhoods so special. I hope everyone is staying safe during this week's air quality advisory. KN-95 masks are available at my office for free. Stop in during business hours to get masks.

Over the past few weeks, I've had the chance to stop by several block parties throughout the 39th Ward and spend time at the West Walker Garden Walk. It's always a pleasure to catch up with neighbors, meet new families and celebrate the people who make our community such a welcoming place to call home. Thank you to everyone who organized these events and welcomed me along the way.

At City Hall, we're continuing to focus on practical solutions that strengthen our neighborhoods. This week, I was proud to support the FAIR Ordinance, which takes a balanced approach to protecting renters while preserving neighborhood investment and expanding our housing supply. I believe we can protect residents, support responsible housing providers and help ensure our communities remain affordable, stable and welcoming for years to come.

Summer is also a great time to celebrate the incredible organizations that make the 39th Ward such a vibrant place to live. One of those is Albany Park Theater Project (APTP), whose rehearsal and creative home is right here in our ward. Their newest production, The American Project, opens this weekend and continues APTP's long tradition of telling powerful stories through the voices of young people in our community. If you're looking for something to do this summer, I encourage you to support this outstanding local organization by catching a performance.

I hope you're finding time to enjoy everything summer has to offer, whether that's attending a neighborhood event, supporting a local business or simply spending time with family and friends. I look forward to seeing many of you around the ward throughout the rest of the season!

Best,

Alderman Samantha Nugent

These long-standing community traditions bring neighbors together to celebrate our country, strengthen friendships, and showcase the incredible community spirit that makes the 39th Ward such a special place to call home. Thank you to State Representative Mike Kelly for joining the festivities, and to the 16th and 17th District Police Departments for keeping our parade routes safe so everyone could enjoy a fun and memorable holiday.
