32nd Ward Newsletter October 2, 2026 | | |
Dear John,
The amended Chicago parking meter deal has passed City Council. Along with my colleagues Alderwoman Dowell, Alderwoman Lee, and Aldermen Villegas and Red Burnett we made significant amendments to the meter deal. We are grateful to our colleagues for voting to pass this agreement that improves the financial position of our city for years to come. Weeks of extensive, deliberative, and thoughtful negotiations led to this unprecedented deal, which represents significant progress as compared to the previous proposal. We are proud to have helped forge this achievement, and look forward to seeing this plan implemented to the clear benefit of all Chicagoans in the months and years ahead. The amended deal includes a $75 million asset transfer to the City, a 5% share of future net income ($367 million over 57 years at present rates), and meter use changes that will reduce some of the costs the City incurs under the original 2008 agreement. The asset buyer Stonepeak also followed through on its commitment to divest Omni Air International, and announced the sale of Omni before our final vote. The funds from the negotiated deal will be used for pension fund obligations.
The Bucktown 5K is this weekend. Check the link below for the street closures. Looking forward to seeing all the neighbors running the race again this year! Good luck as many of you prepare for the marathon!
I join my colleague Alderwoman Nicole Lee in the disappointment that not enough committee members were present for a committee hearing on domestic violence. I extend my deepest apologies to all the survivors and advocates who showed up to this meeting only to have it cancelled. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you or anyone you know needs help please call 877-863-6338 for the domestic violence hotline. Don't wait.
Also coming up this month, meetings on E-bike and E-scooters use on park district properties, and the meeting for the Metra Clybourn improvements.
One last thing - Congrats to The Stop Along (1812 N. Milwaukee Avenue) for a best burger shout out from Crains. Check it out on Instagram!
Have a great weekend!

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) began in 1987, with Congress officially designating October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989. DVAM provides an opportunity for everyone to teach and share information about the prevalence and impacts of domestic violence. It's also an opportunity to show support to survivors.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Every day, advocates and local domestic violence programs are there to help. If you or someone you know needs help, please call 877-863-6338.
If you are an ally and want to help someone, considering donating to a nonprofit that handles these issues such as The Network or Connections for Abused Women and their Children. Here are also some other actions you can take to help!

Thanks for Coming to the Bucktown Apple Pie Contest!
Friends of Holstein Park raised over $1300 at this event this past weekend. Proceeds from their events are used to help fund improvements at Holstein and Senior Citizens Memorial Park. Thanks to all those neighbors who finished off a few dozens apple pies, and this year's unique apple pie contest treats- fritters and apple mochis. Thanks to my fellow judges, the home based bakers (kids too), those indulging in the eats, and the Friends of Holstein Park for a fun afternoon. If you are interested in volunteering for this and other events that help sustain the Park, reach out to Mike at the Friends of Holstein.

| | 2026 Street Cleaning Schedule | | |
Street cleaning season is in full swing. Sweepers will do more than one pass on the block in their initial cleaning but will not come back to clean sections outside of their officially scheduled day.
Next week, street sweeping will occur in sections 10, 11, and 12 (parts of South Lakeview and Lincoln Park). Click on the map above to see your section's schedule.
Please be on the lookout for signs and make sure to move your vehicle on your scheduled day (south and east sides of the street are normally done on the first day, north and west on the second; please watch for signs).
Please take the time to help clear the curb in front of your property to keep the sewers flowing well. Any landscaping debris should be bagged and put in the alley by your trash cans. Please do not sweep landscaping debris into the street. Piles of leaves and heavy garbage also clog the sweepers and will cause significant delays. Other large objects like branches will also damage the sweepers, so please remove them from curbs. Many of our clogged drains are covered in bottles, plastic bags and heavy landscaping debris that prevents good drainage. Removing plastics from the curbs and drains also helps keep our Chicago River and Lake Michigan free of the debris.
Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool.

| | Clean Up After Your Dog Signs | | |
One of the most frequent calls we get in the office is about dog poop. We love your furry friends, but what comes out of their ends needs to be disposed of properly. Keep our neighborhood clean, keep your neighbors happy, and keep following City ordinance 7-12-420 so you're not fined up to $500.

This October, Chicago is going up against Philly AND Los Angeles in a cross-country Clean-Off competition, to see which city can pick up the most litter! Led by Cleanup Club Chicago on the Chicago side and supported by many other local cleanup orgs, the winning city will have bragging rights, and the top litter pickers will be eligible for cool prizes. Anyone can participate by cleaning up litter within Chicago city limits, whether it’s with an organized group cleanup or on your own. Chicago beat Philly last year, and we need your help to do that again in 2026! To join this competition, you will need to submit your litter picking hauls through an online form so the organizers can tally up the results.
