Statement on Walgreens Closure at 86th & Cottage Grove

The anticipated closure of the Walgreens at 8628 S. Cottage Grove in early June is unacceptable.

This is not just a store—it is a lifeline for prescriptions, basic healthcare, and daily necessities for our seniors and families. Walgreens has profited from this community for years, and now they are choosing to walk away without regard for the impact.

Let me be clear: there is no loyalty here—and our community will remember it.

I am demanding immediate answers from Walgreens leadership on their timeline, how prescriptions will be handled, and what concrete steps they will take to ensure residents are not left without access to essential services.

We will not accept corporate abandonment, and we will not allow this decision to happen without accountability.

Alderman William E. Hall
